Rosalia & Bertille went to church this morning. Aunt Mary was there too she came up with Oscar’s wife & Frank’s wife, Emma, then after church they & Emma Eckert, Lena Birkner, & Louise Birkner all went down to Christ Buehler’s to help quilt. We had chicken for dinner today. Talk is spread that George Lorberg is going to move in Henry Braun’s house in Hecker and he is going to attend to the farm at home, Mrs. Lorberg wanted to move downstairs, so I guess that is why they have to move. John Reagan is going to move in Mrs. Stauenbiel place in half the house. Papa furnished plowing this morning. Eggs are .24¢ at present. We sold 4 dozen last night. It is raining this afternoon. Bertille got the mail this evening. Papa went up to the bank this afternoon and then he went down to the Sorghum Mill. Steve Rennecker was fixing the machine they are going to start soon.

Papa went up town and got Vic. Eichenseer to put a new valve in the tank in the basement so now it works again. Then Papa took him back again. Rosalia & Papa went out to Henry’s to get a load of wheat. After dinner he took the wheat down to Red Bud, then it went out to B. W. Weld’s sale 3 miles south of Waterloo on the hard road, his son was doing the farming & he is a plumber. Harry Kammler is having a dance tonight. One of our Rhode Island Reds laid one egg today. Papa bought some chicken coops at the sale. There sure was a crowd in Hecker at the dance the streets were all lined up with cars.
Thursday, Sept. 18, 1930
We are baking bread & coffee cake today. Papa furnished harrowing this morning & this afternoon started plowing. We had company this afternoon, they were neighbors to Mr. Greinvell at Smithton. They wanted to buy some leghorn pullets, but they only wanted about 5 or 6 & we couldn’t sell them that way, they either had to take them all or’s none. There were some gypsies went through Hecker with the wagon & horses. We found 27 eggs today. We took 5 doz. off & got .25¢ a doz. Mrs. Adolph Rittemeyer is on the sick list at present the way we heard.
Thursday, Sept. 11, 1930
Rosalia & Bertille had house cleaning upstairs today. Washed curtains. There was a man here this morning wanted to know if we had any wells or cisterns to clean. We sent him off. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this morning. He wanted to get some jack to raise the house a little. Aunt Mary said there was just such an awful crowd down at Wiegands, they took up collection .25¢ a piece. They took in $9.00 and some cents. Bill Herzog, Lawrence Schultz and another fellow, furnished music. Ted Eichenseer’s were cooking apple butter today. Rosalia took 5 doz. eggs to the store & got .25¢ a doz. I noticed in the paper in Hecker news that, Adam Eisenhaver and H.M. Hill were called into probate court at Belleville Sat. to testify as witnesses to the last will of Benhardt Buss. George Gambach dug a new well on his premises. There is about 5 or 6 ft. of water in it. A St. Louis baseball team arrived here Sunday & showed Hecker boys how to play ball by defeating them with a score of 7 to 2. Hurrah! for St. Louis. Charles Boll is the oldest man in Hecker. He celebrated his 82 birthday last Sunday. Mr. & Mrs. Roy Kunz are the happy parents of a baby boy born to them last Tuesday, Sept. 9. She was formerly before marriage, Miss Marie Rausch of Hecker, Ill. They now live at Smithton. Clifford Sthaleber [Stahlebher] was over a little while this evening.
Saturday, Sept. 6, 1930
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for lunch, dinner & lunch today, we dug a well. There is about 8 ft. of water. In the evening we drove out to Uncle Fred’s & got them went back to Hecker and took the hard road to Breezy Hill to Gus Geodell’s 25th wedding anniversary, silver. There was a big crowd there. It rained this evening, it just poured down. They stayed at our house all night. Bertille was over an invited Elmer Kammler.

Bertille was at church this morning. We heard they fired John Wittenaur from the creamery in Hecker & also Steve Rennecker from the Heyl Rock quarry. But he is going to work with Weber Quarry now. We washed, ironed, patched this afternoon. Henry was here a little while this afternoon. Papa got Vic Eichenseer to come down and look at our tank in the basement this morning. He unscrewed the valve so we could get water out of the tank. This evening we went out to Uncle Fred’s and Aunt Mary’s a little while. Then we came back and got some chicken and took them to the store, we had 71 lbs. spring chickens. .22¢ a lb. $15.62.
Tuesday, August 5, 1930
It is awful cloudy this morning but no rain yet. We washed this morning. Aunt Mary called up and wanted us to get their stove for them. They came up for dinner, we had chicken. After dinner we went & loaded the range on the Whippet & took it out there. Then the stove pipes didn’t fit. Then Rosalia & Bertille took Uncle Fred’s machine and went to Hecker & got one of our stove pipes. We had lunch out there this afternoon. Henry called up this evening & said he was going to fan clover seed tomorrow morning so Papa is going out there.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & Leona & family were all here for dinner today. This evening Rosalia & Bertille walked up to Eichenseer’s corner. It is nice & cool today, yesterday it was 106 degrees. Henry C. Voges was buried this morning. Today is Fern Gulley’s birthday & also George Parker’s, he was 50 years old. Fern was 20 years old. Today the Smithton Pontiac’s & Hecker teams played but Hecker lost this time. They also lost last Sunday, they played with Waterloo K.C.

Henry is trashing this morning. We all went out to Uncle Fred’s and Aunt Mary’s and got them then we all went to Henry’s. Mrs. Gus Geodell and Mrs. Dan Geodelle were also helping. They had them for lunch and dinner. After dinner, Papa took the horses & colt & hitched them to the cultivator and drove them to Hecker. We thrashed about 183 bus. out at Henry’s. And here from Kuhns we thrashed about 166 bus. and from Pabst, 63 bus. Kuhn’s thrashed altogether 2300 bus. wheat. Papa hauled to Red Bud 8 bus. and got .78¢ that was Hecker wheat.
