Send a card to Aunt Mary, at St. Louis. We got lights now, all connected & working order, sure nice. Got letter from Aunt Mary; coming home by buss [sic] as far as Belleville, we should meet them there.

Pap got load corn fodder. He went to Red Bud, put ad in Saxemeyer’s news, went to see McBride. Went to Belleville this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, went to Belleville this evening. Rose went to Millsdadt [sic] Homecoming; this evening to see parade.

No rain, cooler. Hy. Armstutz came with a crop & we shipped 2 doz. chickens. Hy Kleber that lives on Meng farm is now moving again to Floraville. Today Waterloo has church pinic [sic], 75 Anniv. Fr. Freund has mass there this morning, he is now at St. Luke’s at Belleville, as assitant [sic]. Pap got load corn fodder again. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, had dinner here. Pap went to Waterloo this afternoon. It started raining at 2’o clock, & kept up all nite we didn’t get to the pinic [sic]. they sold 500 supper tickets. Pinic [sic] is again tomorrow.

Ironed. Rose & Bert went to Waterloo to dentist. Bert got 1 filled by Hotz $2.00. A guy here selling apples $1.25 bu. & ones taking orders for Mitner Product Co. of St. Louis. Joe Griffin came & checked up on light switches etc. We went to Belleville, got everything the fixtures etc. Joe also was in, got it all at Haskel’s Electric Store.
Sunday, Aug. 16, 1936
Went to Red Bud. Fr. Stern is sick. Fr. Feldmann said mass & Simon of Belleville gave coummioun [sic]. Mrs. Henry Geodelle died & being buried this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we all went in to Waterloo just to the house; she looked good; lot of flowers. Firemen Pinic [sic] & fish fry & dance at Manier’s. Bert got $1.80 playing bluey. Lou Mertz got quilt & Al. Schillings girl the other one; both pretty; the dance was crowded & hot. Ed. Watchel & other guy got into scrap, the other guy knocked Edwin over, nose bleeding; they put him in jail & send Ed home.

Holiday. Went to church early. Henry & Leona went to Belleville left the kids here. Pap went along with Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary to Hazelriggs sale. Henry & Leona came this eve; we all went to Floraville to free calico hop at Keims tavern; nice crowd. Cloudy had little rain this morn.

Pap went to Belleville this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, went to the sale at Smithton. Triple birthday dance at Pautler’s tonite, Rythum [sic] Kings Orch. Adm. 25 Ladies free.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, we all went to Belleville got new dresses. A large truck of watermelons went by, stopped here & we bought 2 40¢, nice big one 50 lb. melons.

It rained a little yesterday eve. We cleaned chicken houses, baked bread etc. Ruma has church pinic [sic] today; not so hot. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had lunch here, he helped to put up the stand for pinic [sic] tomorrow. Pap got load corn, fodder at Henry’s. We cleaned radish & lettuce seed. Our white sow died. Berti went to telephone office & called Johnson Bros. at Belleville & they came & got it this afternoon. Sure cloudy & awful warm. Eggs 21¢.

Cold again this morn; Kahmers have sale starting at 10. Starr auctioneer again. Harms Excutioner [sic]. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & pap & Bert went to Kahmers sale, about 10:30, all day, we bought wood bar 10¢ & cook pot & flour sifter 25¢; lot of people there, things went quick. Geo. Wagner & kids were over awhile; The Gen Sen [? – unclear] man was at the sale today also. Sure cool morn & evenings. The Walkathon at Belleville is still going at 9 o’clock tonite it is 1008 hrs. for 6 couples & 1 girl; the winners to receive $1,000.
