Today threshing begins Joe & Geo. Schilling & Joe Watchels; at E. Rettinghouse. Pap & Rose went to Belleville with 28 springs 59 lbs. @ 20¢. Pap put new screens on basement.

Wednesday, June 24, 1936

Pap & Rose took 10 bus. wheat to Waterloo, got 84¢, last old wheat; got flour & chick mash & fattening mash. We got chicken dinner today. Mr. Wolf of Freeburg was here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came to get there radio battery tonite, Henry & family came up, brought milk & ice we made ice cream, about 1 gal; boy! was it good. Beautiful day.

June 22, 1936

Raining all day, very nice, had chicken soup dinner. Eggs 18¢ Bertie took 6 doz. to town. Pap & Rose went out to Henry’s got load corn, cleaned the bins for wheat, at threshing.

Friday, June 19, 1936

Pap & Rose went out to Henry’s before 5 ‘o clock; had lunch & dinner & finished cutting oats now; at noon, got Emil down & he helped put the binder in the shed; has about 2 hrs. shocking to do yet. Ralph Rausch came & pd. the balance $5. on ball ground there dance was fairly well attended Sun. nite. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came we went to Chester to see Gertie Irose; she sure looks natural & good, she has been in bed for 5 mons; & was terrible sick the last 10 days. Hubert said, had a cancer; she was at the home of Schroeder Ambulance & Undertaker, they are remodeling the parlor at present time; When we got to Chester, the shift gears wouldn’t work on our car, got it repaired at Chester Cowell’s garage. Walter Gregson were down, & McDermott, Doyl’s May’s. The crops don’t look so good down there. Leo Orlet of Paderborn, stopped in while in town this evening.

Henry & family came up had lunch, finished cutting here & went home, started there. Rosalia took the boys to Waterloo Suslr [? – unclear] tution [sic]. Pap & Rose went out to Henrys, had dinner, lunch & supper.

Sunday, June 14, 1936

Beautiful day. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, awhile before mass. Mrs. Emma Eckert brought the veil back, had it borrowed for Emmie Solemn Coummioun [sic – Communion]. We went to Red Bud for 7:30 mass, but it is changed now to 6:30 & 8:30 masses, so we came to late, so stayed for high mass & benediction. The Evangical [sic] Church Ladies Aid got cold supper & pinic [sic] today, at church grounds. The Hecker Baseball Club has a dance at Kammler’s Hall musci [sic] by Schmidts. We went to pinic [sic] awhile. Pap went for supper, also Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary. Birkner’s Orch. played musci [sic]. Mrs. Milton Wagner won the free game of bluey, & also the quilt in lotto, & Mrs. Frieda Koreber won 1 quilt in bluey & 1 that was raffled out; sure luck. Edgar Wittenauer was stabbed with a knife last nite by Maniers, isn’t so bad; fellow from Athens; sheriff came out & took him to Waterloo Jail.

Saturday, June 13, 1936

Henry came, looked at the wheat, pap went out there this morning, started but had to quit; it is to green yet; wait till Mon. now, then cut up here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went up, we all went to Waterloo to Streicher’s sale, bought 35¢. All kind fruit jars, for 10¢ 35 of them. Went to church this afternoon at Waterloo. Rose & Bert went to Maniers got fish sandwiches & beer. Boy it was good.

Friday, June 12, 1936

Rose & Bert went out to Henry’s, & Leona & kids went along over to see Mrs. Joe Schilling & Sister Everdina, or Frances, she is still the same; little stouter, Mrs. is feeling pretty good. Mrs. Helen Walsh & John Schilling & girls also came; we stayed at Leona’s had dinner & lunch, we washed feathers, couple pillows & all the feathers in 1 bed; sure is some mess; put them in the washer & through the wringer. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, he helped pap alter the pigs; Ted Eichenseer was here, about house Insurance. Eggs 18¢.

Nice cool morning, had awful wind at 3 o’clock. Pap is making a small hen house. Levi Ganley came looked at the mule. Bert patching socks. Received the $1.00 refund check from Chicago Mail Order.

Tuesday, June 9, 1936

The Wedding of Clements Schlotmann & Helen Krou at 8 o’clock mass at Red Bud; we & Aunt Mary went down, Joe Gregson’s & Olivi & Agnes. Mrs. Starr all from Hecker; The Wedding was pretty, short veil, & white ensemble dress; took pictures at the church. Mrs. Schlotmann was crying; having the dinner at Kern’s. Berti went along with Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary home, helped clean the big room, washed, ironed etc. had dinner & supper; they came up this eve. again, & pap went along with them to Pautler’s, we went also. It was a Columbia couple wedding dance, big crowd & so hot it was. Jac. Erle was here, insured our house. Pap & Rose went to Belleville.
