Wednesday, Feb. 15, 1939

Went to Leo’s. Pap helped Leo saw logs down, had dinner & supper. Bill [Klein] came & looked at Leo’s car, has coil burned out, going to order from Kettler bring along tomorrow. Ladies Aid have euchre in hall tonite. Annie Fahey of Red Bud died, will be buried tomorrow morn. from Red Bud there had 3 priests for mass. Fr. Havey, Aydt, Spors. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up for the euchre, nice crowd they said. Klotz’s girls were lucky, one winning quilt & blanket.

Wednesday, Feb. 8, 1939

Bert baked pie. Pap went to Waterloo got feed. Suppose to get cold tonite, to be zero. Pap splitting wood. Bill [Klein] came, we went to Waterloo to Pautler’s to wedding dance, Gummersheimer’s, old couple; nice crowd; good musci [sic].

Tuesday, Feb. 7, 1939

Nice day, washed ironed et. Leo & family came this eve; him & pap took Whip. took a shoat to there [sic] place, he bought one from here; couldn’t take it in his car.

Saturday, Feb. 4, 1939

Pap got haircut. Nice day from top, 19 [degrees] this morn. Went to Smithton to church this afternoon. Berniece got 1 doz. eggs this afternoon. Susie Gal of Hill’s is playing with the Ozark Ridge Runners at Valmeyers tonite for dance & floor show at 10:30. Adm. 30 [cents] per person; Advertised in paper.

Thursday, Feb. 2, 1939

Pap went to Waterloo, got laying mash, stopped at Leona’s got butter. Bert [Bertille] ironed, patched etc. The ground hog didn’t, get to see his shadow today, fair weather.

Thursday, Jan. 26, 1939

Nice day warm. A. [Aunt] Mary’s birthday 62 yrs. old. We went out this afternoon, had supper. Went with Whip. roads aren’t so nice. Pap went to Larsons by Burksville bought 8 pigs $34.00. Leo & family, Bill [Klein], came this eve; we quilted & played cards. Red Bud church has euchre tonite. Frank Birkners have a baby girl since Tues. also Oliver Quirins a girl Belleville hospital since Jan 21. Billy [Willis] has got pink eye now. Floyd arm is sore.

Wednesday, Jan. 25, 1939

Beautiful day. Pap went to Waterloo got laying mash. went to Burksville on business. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary went butchering at Chris. Buehler’s today. 3 days. Bert [Bertille] quilted all day. Eggs are now 13 [cents] going down rapidly.

Friday, Jan. 20, 1939

Leo & Rose [Rosalia] Wedding Ann.; but to muddy roads, can’t get there. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, he took some wheat to Waterloo, she helped quilt. Pap went to Farmers’ meeting at Kammlers. Henry came on business. Boys got sore eyes, pink eye they call it, school is closed for couple days, most all the children have it. Closed today.

Wednesday, Jan. 18, 1939

Cloudy. Leo & family came down, we had chicken soup dinner; he helped pap fix fence, got 2 sows from here, took them there with Whip.; on trade for heifer from Leo, brought that home here; they did the work while home, had supper here, stayed awhile, quilted this eve. Steve Renneker came, paid for his hog $[unclear] @ $7.75. Bill [Klein] came & Bert [Bertille] went to Paderborn to Euchre party, had 8 points got table cloth & Bill had 7 got can pineapple, quite a crowd present, had a dance after, musci [sic] by Jac. Schoenborn. Henry came to get black & [unclear]. Mary Grossheim was found dead in bed this morn. hadn’t been ill at all, will be 62 in May, buried Sat. morn.

Tuesday, Jan. 17, 1939

Leo & family came, he helped pap haul hay in barn; we put in quilt & started quilting; had dinner here. Snowing all afternoon & evening; Pap & Leo went out to Henry’s to get clover seed. Eggs went down 1 [cent] again 15 [cents] again. The boys [Henry’s children] got vaccinated this morning; all are alright.
