We washed, hung in the basement, raining out & cloudy weather, rain, nearly all night & thundering. Today Dr. Isselhardt, dentists start in Hecker again, Kammler’s upstairs, upend up again through the winter months; from 10-4. A man here selling apples $1.25 bu. & pears $1.00, we bought a peck to eat; awful good, but little; took our flower slips in, upstairs.

We cleaned the two front rooms, waxed floors. There was a piece in the paper about the world coming to the end yesterday; not it will be in 1942 or 43 it said; a prophet claimed that; Alice & Lucille are now at Cleveland’s staying there.
Monday, Sept. 10, 1934
Henry & Leona came up, him & papa went to Ed. Meng’s & bought a gray mare & 4 mo. old colt for $90.00 & he bought our mule $35.00, made a note $125.00. Uncle Fred went to Red Bud hauling wheat, she stayed here, he hauled again this afternoon, wheat is 96¢. Papa & Rosalia hauled load wood home, it rained this afternoon. Mr. Miller horse trader was here. A man was here left a book on “Why Pray for Prosperity,” very nice reading in it. It rained nearly all night.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, then we all went to Waterloo to Pautler’s Park, Tiptown labor day pinic [sic]. Berti won alarm clock playing & bluey, Aunt Mary 3 pc. set knife for kitchen use; nice crowd, Moonlighters playing, dancing in afternoon free. evening supper 50¢ gents 25 ladies 15.
Saturday, Sept. 8, 1934
Rosalia & Berti went to Waterloo, to the Wedding mass of Martha Schilling 24 & Joe Neary 28, the attendants cousins to the bride, Omer Schilling & Olivia Paulter girl; high mass; she wore white with veil & bridesmaid, blue driss [sic] with white hat & shoes, gloves; the groom & his attendant wore dark blue suits; the wedding breakfast & dinner was served at the home of the bride: parents; the young couple will make there home in St. Louis; were the groom is employed. Henry came up, had dinner here, him & papa; went out looking for horses; all day, down at Chris Buehler’s this morn. The people are again recieving [sic] checks on 5% payment from the bank; the next will be 10%; ours came in the letter with Emil’s, he gave it to us this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped awhile, then went to Buehler’s birthday there. There is free dance at Donahue’s, Oak Grove, Burksville tonight.
Friday, Sept. 7, 1934
Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, had dinner here. He helped papa get the binder home from Fleckistein’s. Mr. & Mrs. Milton Wagner moved to Hecker, to Rausch place, Hy is going to live in Kammler’s summer kitchen; then. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Red Bud, bought a few things & got tickets. Armin Mier 22 of Prairie Du Long & Frieda Underwood of Freeburg 19, licensed was in the paper this evening. Aaron Papbenger’s dance the other night, he got $7.53; the orchestra took $7.50 – so he had 3¢ left; he had posters printed to; that is what they say. Ha!

We made pear preserves canned 2½ pickles. Raining this morning Delmar Watchel’s birthday 3 yr. There is 4 kids going to Blackburn School so far, Robert, 3 yr. & Floyd & Wilkerson, Scrivener, on Pautlers place rides down, with the teacher every day, she brings them all home; Mrs. Kruse is the teacher, lived at Burksville. Mrs. Alice Brand & Lucille left from California Sun. & arrived in Waterloo at 11 o’clock Tues. night, were Kenneth Kemp got them, that is were they are making there home & then go around, see all the folks; was by Uncle Adam’s today.
Wednesday, Sept. 5, 1934
Men here wanted to fix stove, we didn’t have it done. Uncle Fred & Aunt went home this morn. Freedman from Waterloo was here sold us sew no more. Aaron Papenberg is giving a 21- birthday dance at Kammler’s tonite has posters out. Received a few presents. We all went, passed the hat around to the men; for 5 0r 10¢ cover expense; sure a crowd Moonlighters played.

Rosalia 23 birthday. Uncle Fred went home, Aunt Mary stayed, helped Rose fix another dress for herself. Henry & family came this evening, he brought the team along for pap; to use this week. Cleveland’s came, played pinochle; had watermelon & cake. Uncle & Aunt had supper here, we made spring chicken & dressing.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner & supper here, she got some wieners; we went to Red Bud, seen the parade, it rained all night & all morn; got so cold this evening we went home from the pinic [sic]. Tiptown had no pinic [sic] today.
