We washed & ironed, Oh! my some wind, blew the cloths line in pieces; dried good. Papa hauled in hay. We all went to Conrand Myerscough’s to look at a horse that he wants to trade with the mule, but they can’t get together so far; also went to see Mr. Laurent, also by Ruma, advertised our heifers for sale. Rosalia went after the mail, send order for Aunt Mary hair color, took Mrs. Staufebiel’s pattern back, got 14¢ for eggs. Mr. Hill came for news. Rudolph got buried at Red Bud this morn. Dr. Roland Isselhartd is observing his natal anniversary at 212 S. Charles St.

Went to church, took Helfrichs kids along, they got a place down by Evansville, 2 mi. north east. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up for dinner & supper. Emil came this afternoon had supper. Uncle Fred stayed & we played cards this evening. There is closing of 40 hr. Devotion in Waterloo this eve. Some people stopped got 4 doz. eggs @ 15¢.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon. Rose & her went over to Mrs. Stauenfbiels. Hy. Armstutz & George Wagner came over got a hog 200 lbs. this morning, George butchered today, pretty nice day, got warmer.

Henry brought load corn. He sold 6 pigs for $5.50 to Stehl. We went up in the woods, there all day, was pretty nice, 4 o’clock it got so cold, & snowing all night; Oh! Boy! what snows we are having. The Basket groceries last Sat. nite at City Grocery was won by Al Heintz & at Rau’s Store, by Sisters of the Convention Waterloo. City Grocery is still haveing [sic] special prices & sale, Sat. evening, a box of Groceries will be awarded again.

Snowed last night. We made ice cream this morn. Rosalia took eggs up got shipstuff got 15¢ for eggs at Eichenseer’s. We got cheese again from Mertz. The Y.P.L. are having a euchre in Kammlers Hall tonite; not a very big crowd, I don’t imagine, we didn’t go. George Wagner was here, says he will butcher Sat. if weather permits.

Rose & Bert went up to mass, funeral of Mr. Berg. Koch undertaker. It wasn’t so very large, few neighbors, & relatives. Pallbearears [sic] were Willie Ganley & Reagen, Huber McDermott, Tom Havey, Abrose Doyle, Joe Kunkel. Fr. made a very nice sermon, the body was viewed in back church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon & we all went to Belleville to Mr. John Birkner’s funeral, Uncles step brother, at the home of John Breutigam’s, & the most beautiful flowers & so many, they had. Gardener had charge, & Rev. Pessel, the service, nephews pallbearers, Armstuz’s, Birkners & Hepp’s; It was pretty large. Cold & snowing this afternoon. Rosalia took Aunt Mary over to Mrs. Staufenbeils try her dress, see if he fits all right. Eggs 14¢ Mertz’s. Rose Pour & Mamie came after we were in bed, Mrs. Pour wanted hatching eggs, but we haven’t none this year, no roosters. Adam Eckert has chicken pox; has pretty much fever.

Went up in the woods all day, took dinner along. Mr. Hy. Meng came & said he didn’t want no hog to butcher, he got his from Kessler. It surely is a nice day, getting colder this evening.

Papa hauled hay. We washed. Ed Neff repaired our Whippet this morning. Papa got the mules hoofs trimed [sic]. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening, went up to see Louise Birkner, she is getting along pretty good; then they & Rosalia went to Belleville to John Breutigams to see Mr. John Birkner, 78 yrs. old; his wife nee Armstutz died 5 yrs. tomorrow. Mrs. Anna Helfrich, died yesterday morning at the home of this daughter, Mr. Joe Karban of Paderborn, we’ll [sic] be buried tomorrow morning 8 o ‘clock mass there. That is Nic Helfrich’s mother & George Neff’s grandma, there boy is the only great grandchild. Mr. Hill was here for news. Mr. Valentine Berg died this morning & will be buried Wed. morning 9:30 Catholic Church here, & then to cemetery. He was making his home with Ed his son, in Blackjacks age 84 yrs.

Henry & family came for dinner & supper. It is a most beautiful day; but roads are muddy, wagons & buggy passing, people went to church. We went to Joe Watchel’s played couple games 5 hand pinochle; cake was served; this evening. Mr. John Birkner, at New Athens passed away this afternoon, will be at his daughters in Bellville [sic], that is Uncle Fred’s brother. Mrs. Louis Birkner is very sick also.

Papa got haircut. We went to Waterloo this afternoon; special sale at Mudds City Grocery, sugar for 48¢ etc; sign your name on a card to win 1 bu. basket groceries; to be raffled this evening; we have our names in. There was two funeral this afternoon in town, McDonald, to Catholic Cemetery; & Max Schlich, Evangaciol [sic] church & cemetery. Robert got 3 teeth pulled by Dr. Hotz, today. The state men are testing the hard road out west, now. Mr. Ed. Meng had a light stroke this morning, they called for Mr. Rennecker, & the doctor, he couldn’t talk Lena said, but he can open his mouth now.
