Last day of the year. Pap & Berti went to Waterloo this morning, got egg mash, went to see Bershe & Ziebold’s Radios. Mr. Jerome Vogt came, counted our pigs & pap had to sign contracts. Papa went to Chris Buehler’s this afternoon, he bought 3 heifers $42 from him. An egg peddler Moll stopped looked at our cows, the one is sold, he might come back again later on, but the time the other one will have a calf. Mr. Streck came out & looked the cattle over, but didn’t buy.
Wednesday, Dec. 25, 1935
Christmas Day. Went to 5 o clock mass at Red Bud. Uncle & Aunt called in then went home after church. We went out to Henry’s had dinner, Geodell’s were out to; Boys got all kind of things from Santa, wagon, coloring sets, lotto game, pocket knife, fountain pens from Grandma at Waterloo. Boy! did it get gold, snowing terrible this morning at 4 o clock it was warm at 6 & after it started in freezing & zero all day. The Evangical [sic] children have there Christmas program at the church tonite. In Red Bud they have a big lighted tree on Public Sq; drive around it.

Terrible cold this morning, real zero weather. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he went to Waterloo, Eggs 26¢. Mr. & Mrs. Cyrus Holcomb of Belleville, nee Lela Deuker have a little baby girl born at the hospital on last Tues. 17, Lela has a beauty parlor on W. Washington St. Berti took a chance for 5¢ on basket canned goods; at Eichenseer’s. The Catholic School children has there play tonite; ends school for 2 weeks.

Pap got crushing done. Con Myerscough & son Leo stopped in to see our mare, didn’t buy yet. Rain this afternoon & nite. Berti got a answer from the Extension Magazaine [sic] that dances in advent & lent, was no sin, & could also go on St. Patricks. night. Myrtle Keim of Waterloo is having a birthday dance at Pautlers tonite. Moonlight Orch. Adm. Gents 25 ladies free.

Feast Day. Cloudy & rained last night. They have 13 hr. Devotion in Hecker parish today; Armin Geodell’s called there baby girl Marlene Norma. Wagner’s went to Waterloo show last night, to see “Shirley Temptte” [sic – Shirley Temple] & “Curly Top;” said it was awful nice.
Thursday, Dec. 5, 1935
Papa & Rose took a heifer out to Henry’s. We got 8 pigs born today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he went to Waterloo, & got his car looked after, had supper here; went home, came back again this evening & we all went to Christ Buehlers, gave them a visit, had a solo game; musci [sic] & singing. Rose sewed the star quilt together in stars.

Papa went to Jack Dugan’s & bought a sow for $25.00. got crushing done this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, he went up to the woods & got load rock. Ed. Meng was over awhile. Henry was here & got block & taggle, to butchered a beef soon. Horn’s funeral & in Waterloo & Dehn at Red Bud this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this evening & Rose & Berti went along to Oak Grove, Adm. 10¢, he paid it, Blossom City Orch; not much to it; one at Burksville also; at Waterloo.

Cleaned hen house. Rose got the papers, ordered the license $18.78 this year. Whip was the same price $12.00 but chev. is only $6.50. We went to Ruma to Myerscoughs & Tiptown to Colemans, & Dugan’s to see about pigs. Mr. Mehrman got the eggs 31¢. Miss Lena Geodelle of Waterloo, Henry Geodelle’s daughter is at St. Marys Hospital for treatments. Dorthy Myerscough is attending Normal College; at Normal, Ill; is home for holidays. Florence goes to High School at Red Bud; Margret is still at the convent, & can’t come home for 2 years.
