Rose & Berti went out to Henry’s, did the cleaning, fried down bacon & sausage. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this afternoon had supper here. Seen in the paper Tiptown players having a play “Cricket’s of Hearth” to be on Mon. the 17 & on 19 at Tiptown Hall. Eggs are 30¢ today. Valentines Day, be we didn’t get none. Mrs. Ed Pabst celebrated her birthday ann. last Sat. nite. Red Bud Sewing Circle has a euchre party this afternoon; a play in Hecker School Hall. Regiment of 2.

Valentine Day. Nice day, but the roads, just terrible, almost impossible with the car. The funeral of Mrs. Klotz is to be held this afternoon, Wagner Undertaker, they brought her up to the church this morn, & services this afternoon, the road is to bad, for anyone to drive in there, so they will bring her to the church; she was 73 yrs. of age, her father still living; but can’t move about, is bed fast with rheumatism in his legs. Papa went to Baldwin to see a party there. We went out to Uncle Adam’s this evening, he is getting along pretty good again.

Pap went out haul logs. Aunt Mary & Josie where here for dinner, came up for church, stayed here for the cheese, played 2 games pinochle this afternoon. Mr. Talbot brought 3 lbs. cheese got it from Mertz Store. “St. Valentine’s Day.” Mrs. Henry Hoerth nee Wagner, of East St. Louis was buried yesterday, found her dead in bed. Mr. Aug. Busch, of the Busch Brewery of St. Louis killed himself yesterday; shot, on account of his health. We went to Red Bud service, took Helfrich’s along. The electric lights went out in church. Eggs are 15¢.

St. Valentine’s Day, & turning cold again, rain & sleet. We got a bottle of bluing today by mail from so Co. got the Chicago Mail Order catalog. There was a fellow around & brought a bottle of medicine good for everything. Rosalia took a dose after supper. Henry Armstutz was here this morn. There was a guy around delivering Freedman Bros. papers sale. Red Bud & Waterloo are giving euchres this evening, but it is an awful bad nite, so we didn’t go. Ironed & quilt today. Mrs. Schenider called up & wanted setting eggs, but we haven’t any right now. The hard road is awful slick, there was a car turned over in front of Ed Parker’s, & Vic Braun & Paul Neff turned over in Smithon [sic] at Siebert store, they where coming home from St. Louis. Ralph Rausch turned over with his lic. [ed. note: unclear] Willie Heyl’s boy is being buried this afternoon at Waterloo.
