Wednesday, Nov. 23, 1932

Papa has a pretty bad cold. Leona sent ½ gal milk up with Wittenauer, & Bertille went up to the store & got it. It rained last nite. The Hecker ladies went up to scrub the hall & church this afternoon.

Saturday, Nov. 19, 1932

We went out to Henry’s butchering, took Uncle Fred along from the church dance, we took the pig along out it weighed 288 lbs. @ 4¢. We took Uncle Fred home as far as that way around. Mr. Daniel Geodelle, Leona’s grandpa died at 5 o clock, this evening. Henry Volkman’s birthday is today.

Wednesday, Nov. 16, 1932

This morning everybody was out shoveling snow, it drifted a lot, good snow balling & sleigh riding today. Papa & Bertille went to Red Bud this afternoon, got some giz and capsules to worm our chickens, we did it this afternoon. Tonite there is to be euchre & dance at Paderborn, we had intended to go, but not by this weather we won’t go. Leona called for Dr. Eckert to come out there, Floyd took sick, he wouldn’t talk, had craps, Dr. said it come from eating to much warm pumpkin pie, after he vomited he was better, he has fever. It was about 8′ oclock when she called for him this evening. Floyd had been sleeping already.

Tuesday, Nov. 8, 1932

Papa went up & voted this morn. It rained last night & sleet & ice this morn. Henry & Leona & Floyd where up for dinner. Rosalia went along up with them & voted. We sold 9 doz. eggs, at 27¢ doz. to Tecklenburg from Belleville.

Saturday, Nov. 5, 1932

Bertille is 18 yrs. old today. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary Henry’s family, Christ Buehler’s family where all here this eve, playing cards, music & singing, cake & beer where the refreshments.

Wednesday, Nov. 2, 1932

We went to 6 o clock mass. Ed Meng was here yesterday morn, wanted to buy hog for market price; but papa won’t sell none like that yet, for that price, 335 100 lbs corn. Arthur Budde, Cecil Starr husband, was here trying to trade cars, he is working for Berdeker Garage at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she went to church. Henry & family came up too; they sold almost all of there beef at Waterloo today. We had popcorn. Bertille went up to the dentist & paid $11.50, he had costumers [sic] waiting this morn. Steve Rennecker brought our trees along from Red Bud, what Kirsch replaced. There was stock sale at Rutz’s barn today. Christ Buehler bought 7 hogs 125 to 150 lbs. for $35.00, Steve said, corns brought $45 & $50.00. Wincklein Auctioneer. George Boll went around town selling beef today, he sold hindquarters 15 front 13 soup meat 11¢.

Thursday, Oct. 27, 1932

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s. Uncle Fred Aunt Mary came here awhile, then they went down to Joe Gregson’s after some more chickens, white ones this time 1½ & 2 for us, 1 for Leona. This evening they came up again & brought Mr. Marshall along, he had business with them, what didn’t quite understand; about Wm. Harbaugh’s land, that fellows going around securing the right of way for the hard roads in St. Clair Co, what goes over to New Athens. Leona stepped in a nail went through her foot; she bathed it & put iodine & turpentine on it.

Sunday, Oct. 23, 1932

We went to Red Bud to church, took Mrs. Stauenfbiel along. They have euchre on Nov. 3, papa gave $1.00 for donation. Uncle Fred Aunt Mary & Miss Josie Keller & Miss Isabel Kuhn where all here for dinner & supper. We all went out to John Kaltwasser to gather some hickory nuts in his woods, but there wasn’t many there, about ½ bucket full; then from there we went over to Roy Stauenfbiels, but he say, there wasn’t any there either, Gus, was there, so they talked around awhile, then we stopped in at the church place, Frank Birkner & family came there to; the cemetery is plowed up again, the house is all stucco finished outside, & all hardwood floors up & down, plastered walls, new doors, furnace for the basement, the barn is all new boards all around it; everything fixed dandy. Henry & family came up this evening. This afternoon is Mission Rally at the Orphanage at Glen Addi, being Mission Sunday.

Sunday, Oct. 9, 1932

We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner, after dinner we went out there, had popcorn & supper. This evening we went to Red Bud to church, rosary devotion. Leona got the boys this morning before church. We ran out of gas going to Red Bud to church, by Steinger, papa called up the Red Bud gas station & they brought out 2 gals. Owen [?] was here wanted to look at the cow.

Saturday, Oct. 8, 1932

Leona brought the boy’s here to stay all night with us. They went to Foster Pond with Goedell’s to a free opening dance, by Henry Clever. Mr. Rippleymeir was here & got the cow & calf.
