Election Day. We washed & ironed. Mrs. Jackel of St. Louis, Ed & Hy. Meng sister died, will be buried this afternoon at Belleville. Mr. John Dehn died last night is now at Dashner’s Parlor at Red Bud; he was operated on last Fri. afternoon, died last night. Mrs. Rennecker’s brother. Mr. & Mrs. Ed Brand left for Ala. this morning 7:30. Mr. & Mrs. Levi Gregson went out to Uncle Adam’s today, Emil was on the polls all day. Papa & Rosalia went up to vote. Henry & Leona came up this afternoon to vote. Report was Democrats won in Hecker.

Bertille’s birthday 20 yr. anniversary. Cleaned furnace, baked. Rosalia sewed dress. The dance given in Kammler’s Hall last night by The Pals of Harmony was nothing no crowd. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family & Mr. & Mrs. Dan Geodelle & family were here this evening, played cards.

Henry & family came, they went to Belleville, came back for dinner, raining all day. Got a letter from F. Dudenhoefer for us not to come Sun. because they had a date set; long time.

Went to mass at 7 at Waterloo; stopped by Lizzie Boll & by Henry’s, took Leona along to church, stopped awhile by Mrs. Geodelle.
Tuesday, Oct. 30, 1934
We went out to Henry’s had dinner there, Papa helped him, get his tractor out, it had sunk down, also had to get Joe Schilling’s tractor to pul him out; we helped Leona wash, was going to move the bed’s etc., but we were getting company this afternoon & had to go home. Mr. & Mrs. Ed Brand came to see us from 3 o’clock till 10: had supper with us. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary also came this evening & we played 6 hand euchre. We started fire in furnace first time for this year, to take the chill out of the rooms. It is nice out, warm today again, nite cool.
Monday, Oct. 29, 1934
We washed, ironed. Henry & Leona came this morning, he finished plowing & took the tractor home. Papa & Rosalia went out after dinner, looked at his pigs, wanted to make a trade. We all went to Swansea to see Polace to see team horses & wagon etc. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, stopped, then went out to help Henry Birkner’s & Geo Parkers peel peas. Cleaned winter coats.

Henry & family came, he plowed, they had dinner & supper here, chicken with dressing. Leona & kids went home this afternoon, went to Waterloo, came back this evening; for supper Wagners family came & we had some hot pinochle games losers drop out. Papa & Robert got crushing done this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped then went to New Anthen’s. Tonite they went to Rod & Gun Club, Probst’s birthday celebration.

Mamie Eichenseer came & brought the pattern back. Then she went to Angela’s quilting. We picked the green tomatoes got near a bu. Melvin Wagner was here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, brought some rose bushes & trees. Henry & family also came, so pap stayed at home with the boys’ & we all went to the Rebpulic [sic – Republican] Meeting at Maniers Hall, free refreshments & dance; & was there people there, like pinic [sic], hall was crowded, & windows outside, Jesse Brown was speaker; & the Morone [sic – Monroe] Co. Officers there too.

Henry came finished sewing wheat this afternoon. Emil didn’t help today, papa sewed. Henry had lunch, dinner. Mr. Sheriff Gauen got another ham 12 lb. & ½ bu. sweet potatoes. A guy here to sell Skill gas stoves, working for the Utility Co. of Waterloo. Harry Wittenauer got bu. sweet potatoes $1.00. this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were to Red Bud brought 2 sacks hog along for us. Henry & family came, kids stayed here & they went to Belleville to the stores are open till 8 o clock. Papa got crushing done. Mr. George Schilling left last Sat. for an extended trip in the East to Fort Wayne Indiana. Bill Refescheinder of Waterloo is celebrating his birthday at Pautler’s tonite. Adm. gent 25¢ ladies free. Moonlighters [playing]. Elmer Matthews has one in Foster Pond tonight. Mr. & Mrs. Rennecker, & boarder Mr. Smith went out this evening.

Aunt Mary came over. We washed, ironed, patched. Today is the last game of ball between Cardinals & Tiger’s, they are even now, today tells the tale who wines. The Cardinals won out. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here. We dug the rest of our sweet potatoes out, got about 2 bus. for sale. Uncle helped to. Aunt Mary & us, kids went fishing caught 8, they are so small, we through [sic] it back in again. Uncle Pete’s birthday. Henry brought the tractor up. Leona & kids came to get him; he didn’t work any more this evening. Steve Rennicker was collecting telephone dues, ours is 75¢. Hy. was here selling pears, 50¢ bu. & some guy around selling apples $1.00 bu. Looks like rain.
