It is raining. Lester Gregson & family took Christ Buehlers big truck & hauled Lela & Ethel Duekers school children for a trip today. Papa went up town this afternoon. The town officers where all at Waterloo they will meet. Jatho, Armstutz, Huber where also in this morning. There was a dance at Robert Laut’s last night. Henry’s were invited, but didn’t go. They where here this evening, Henry & Bertille went to Henry Hepp’s to get leghorn eggs, he got 205 eggs. There still 12¢ a doz.

It rained nearly all night, & this morning snowing. Today is Mrs. John McCarthy Sale. Papa went this afternoon. He took the Whippet, he said he see the road back there how it was, & if he couldn’t get through he would let his machine stand by Caldwell’s. Papa heard this morning at Hecker that Ed. Gregson living along the hard road down towards Red Bud died. Papa took Clifford along to the sale, they left the machine stand, & walked to the house, but there was no more than about 2 dozen people there, so the sale was postponed until Thurs. afternoon. Ike Napier & Ed. Meng where there also, they left the machine stand to, by the Portland School & walked there. Eggs are 18¢ today.

It is Christ Buehler’s birthday today. Leona was up for first mass today & Henry for late mass. Uncle Fred is working on the bed what he bought yesterday, he is cleaning it with coakol [charcoal?]. It just seems that everybody what didn’t have the measles yet are sure to get them this year. Agnes Gregson, Karl Boll, Hugo & Robert Probst, Oscar Birkner’s children, & a good many others all got the measles now. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry, were all here for dinner today. He tried to fix our incubator. Tomorrow he is going to sew oats up here. George Reheis is to sew it for him. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Rosalia put up curtains upstairs in the house across the street. They took Cyrus Hill’s wife to the hospital at Red Bud to get operated on appendix. Rosalia went to church this evening.

Today is another spring day. It is also Mrs. Emma Eckert’s birthday. Tonight is meeting again for the farmers in the new school hall. Mr. Tillman is giving it. This evening Joe Gregson & Lester was here. Henry & family came too. Papa & Henry went to the meeting. We baked a sponge & Angel cake tonight. This afternoon Rosalia & Bertille were out at Henry’s, Leona cut Bertille’s hair. Papa went in the woods.
Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1930
Papa went butchering out at Uncle Adam’s today, he was there for lunch & dinner. He had to go to George Henkel’s this morning first and get the hogs for them. We washed, ironed, baked cookies, fry in meat today. Elmer Kammler, John Braun, Willie Braun, Gus. Klotz are all butchering today. It is a right nice day, only it is a little cold. This morning they had to shoot so many times before they killed the hogs at Henkels, Emil, John, George & Papa they all shot a couple of times & finally George killed them with the last bullet, they had. Good Luck wasn’t it, I Say! Levi Gregson’s, Papa & Henry help them to butcher.

It rained all day. Papa went up town this afternoon to get some medicine for our chickens, they have got the roup. This evening Rosalia & Bertille went up to Angela’s & had a pinochle game. Odillo & Rosalia were partners & Bertille & Angela, we won every game, 4 were played. I seen in the Waterloo Times that Mrs. Vincent Krack & daughters were visitors the weekend at Louisville Kentucky. They made the trip by motor. Miss Ethel May celebrated her 17th birthday on Thanksgiving day by having a turkey dinner for her friends. Guy Gregson & George Henkel lost a horse last week & the scavenger truck got them last Sunday. Eggs are .23¢ today.

Papa went to first mass this morning. It is raining again this morning. Mamie Eichenseer was down this afternoon, she had supper with us. This evening Steve Rennecker came over a little while and had pinochle game. Papa & Rosalia were partners & won 2 games out of 8. Steve & Bertille were partners. Papa went up to Griffins this afternoon. The roads are awful muddy. Lester Gregson slipped in the ditch this morning hauling milk out in the prairie.

Today is Clara Gregson’s birthday. Levi Ganley & Martin Doyl’s are going to have shooting match. Mrs. Rexroth is to be buried in the Waterloo cemetery this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to the funeral & then to Levi Ganley’s shooting match, we were there too but didn’t get anything. This evening, we went out to Uncle Fred’s and had a game of pinochle.

Bertille went to church this morning. Papa went up in the woods again. Today is Louis Birkner’s birthday. The priest Frank Swindle came back last night. He left from here last Spring & now he is back again. Papa hauled a load of ground up for the priest this morning. Uncle Fred brought Aunt Mary up this afternoon & then he went back home again. Aunt Mary did some sewing. She was here for supper, we had pancakes. Papa went out in the woods this afternoon in Lord’s Corner & brought some shade trees along home. We planted them out this evening. Uncle Fred went to Wm. Harbaughs first & then he came up here, & then they went to Louis Birkner’s. Lester Gregson & wife & Bobby were here this evening, he brought us our sack of feed. Cyril Eichenseer was down this evening, he wanted to know what Aunt Mary’s middle name was. I seen in the paper that Tiptown Church is going to have a Euchre & turkeys will be disposed of next Sunday night. Rexroth’s in Waterloo, his mother died last night at 7 o’clock.
