It rained last night pretty much; & this morning yet; we all went to Belleville, & Freeburg, bought lumber $4.35 from Classen.

Aunt Mary took quite a few tomatoes along for catsup, we canned 1 qt. pint. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s, got load wheat, took 15 bus. to Red Bud morning got 80¢, & 15 bus. to Freeburg got 78¢.

Papa & Rosalia went in to Belleville twice this morning with hogs, took 4 to Streck Bros. 1,025 lbs. & $4.10 brought a cotton mattress along for Henry for $2.25. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came over to help load the hogs up, was here for lunch; we baked bread, cookie, cake. Papa bought himself a straw hat for 25¢ this afternoon from Eichenseer; we got free today a toilet bowl idolizer, to remove all odors. It is in the paper that Louis Petrie Sr. died last Mon, had a stroke was buried yesterday afternoon. Vivian Geodelle daughter of Al Geodelle & Mr. George Stumpf of Belleville where married quitely last Sat. May 6. at the Evangical [sic] Church; the attendants where Miss Estel Geodell a cousin & Kermit a brother to the bride. Waterloo had a many visitors last Sun. just like homecoming to hear the band concert, 8 bands where present. Rosalia finished our dresses today. Papa went over by Wagners a little while. George told him that the ball team was going to give a dance in Kammler’s Hall last wed. nite but the hall was rented to Herzog & he had his dances so they will give one there next Wed nite; musci [sic] to be furnished by Rheinhardt & Skaers bros; we didn’t no a thing about a dance last wed. nite; rain every day this week, it is awful. Co. from Freeburg looked at mule.

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s got a hog. Mr. Caldwell of East St. Louis stopped & gave us a call. Henry came up with load corn, & also to get crushing done. There is so many working out on west road, they have 5 tractors, & mules, grading. We planted some tulips out from Emma Birkner. I seen in the Prairie Du Long news it says, a few from there attended a miscellanoius [sic] shower given at home of Mrs. Dueker, in East St. Louis for the approaching marriage of Miss Lela Dueker to Cyrus Halcomb of Freeburg.

A man around selling all kinds of articles this morn, we bought 3 pairs shoe strings for 10¢. We washed, ironed, patched, made garden, put out onions. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon. A man stopped & took 4 doz. eggs for 10¢ there 84 in stove. There where 3 people here from Freeburg looked at our mule.

Chas. Jung our egg man was here, but we didn’t sell him any eggs. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s took the wagon home & bought some oats along home & caught in the rain, & heavy. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for lunch, they where up all afternoon, & for Phil Braun’s floor dance, free & barn also, musci [sic] to be furnished by Ill. Roamers & Jeff Bill. Refreshments of fish & soda & ice cream will be served; rang over the lines everbody [sic] welcome. But we ain’t going. We went to Freeburg & got a roll of wire from Classen. It rained again this evening.

Christian Neff & Mary Mosbacher, Daughter of Ignatz are going to be married next Tues. in St. Louis & dance in Paderborn. Ben Schilling & her sister are to be best. Court was set off on Joe Braun’s case till next fall. Papa went to Freeburg after wire.

It froze hard again last nite, ice. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henrys this afternoon & got a load of wheat took it to Freeburg 49¢. There are a few trucks hauling rock again this afternoon for in front of the church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we all went to Oak Grove, Melching gave a free dance. It was a nice crowd there. Vandereit furnished musci [sic]. The Ladies Aid of Evangical [sic] Church gave a euchre this evening in Kammler Hall. Papa got oil in both cars today. egg 8¢.

St. Patrick’s Day. It rained & thunder last night. Clarence Braun has a new Chev. truck to haul milk. Papa went to Belleville & Freeburg. A fellow here wanted to buy eggs for 9¢, but we had already sold ours yesterday. Stell was here.

Henry went to Red Bud this afternoon. He stopped in when he came back. Papa went over to see Ed. Classen at Freeburg. There are quite a few dances this evening.
