We baked eggless cookies this morn. Rosalia went to Eichenseer’s got oil changed in Chev, got the mail. Mr. Gregory Neff is in St. Elizabeth’s hospital, he got kicked by a blind mule, two weeks ago Tues, he was brought to Hecker first to Dr. Eckert, & unconsious [sic], but now they took him to the hospital, he is improving somewhat, they way last nights paper reads. Henry & family came up for supper, & brought the kettles up. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Henry’s to get there blood saussage [sic], just before Henry came up.
Thursday, Dec. 8, 1932
We went to late mass at Red Bud. Henry & Leona & Floyd stopped in on there way to Belleville & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & Rosalia & Bertille went along in with them, lot of Hecker & Paderborn people there today; buying Christmas toys such like. We killed a mouse in the wood box this eve. Adam Eckert’s birthday is today. It is awful cold out tonite.

It rained a little last night, warm again today. We are baking bread. Rosalia & Bertille went out to Uncle Fred’s this morning had dinner there, made 2 blouse shirts for the boys for Christmas. It got cloudy & black out in the northwest & thunder & lighten, wind, hail rain this evening, & turned cold.

Uncle Adam & Emil butchered today Papa & Henry & L. Gregson’s helped. Rosalia & Bertille went out & stayed at Henry’s, helped Leona sew shirts for the boys. had dinner & lunch there. Papa had lunch & dinner at Uncle Adams they finished butchering about 3 o clock, he came home with Levi Gregson’s. A dealer in Westhinhouse [sic- Westinghouse] Automatic electricity from Belleville was here advertising he had a small plant in his car he started it up & showed how it works, for electric lights irons etc. Rosalia Bertille went up to Mamie’s this eve. to see her quilt, cookies & orangeade where had. Lawrence Cortner was here to buy some pigs, he had been here this afternoon but nobody home, so he came back this eve. but he didn’t buy them yet.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family where here for dinner & supper. Aunt Mary & Rosalia & Bertille went over to Mrs. Stauenfbiel’s this evening to see the quilt she has in the frame for Irene Neff’s place where she is working. It is called Grandmothers flower garden; it is sure pretty. We went over to Uncle Fred’s & played cards, 5 hand pinochle, played 3 games.

This morning everybody was out shoveling snow, it drifted a lot, good snow balling & sleigh riding today. Papa & Bertille went to Red Bud this afternoon, got some giz and capsules to worm our chickens, we did it this afternoon. Tonite there is to be euchre & dance at Paderborn, we had intended to go, but not by this weather we won’t go. Leona called for Dr. Eckert to come out there, Floyd took sick, he wouldn’t talk, had craps, Dr. said it come from eating to much warm pumpkin pie, after he vomited he was better, he has fever. It was about 8′ oclock when she called for him this evening. Floyd had been sleeping already.
Monday, Nov. 14, 1932
We washed, ironed, it is awful windy. Louis Schoenborn is getting buried this morn. Tecklenburg got 5 doz. egg @ 29¢. Henry & Floyd where up he got whey. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here awhile paid for there hogs 616 lbs. 2 of them @ 4¢. $24.64, from here they went to Louis Birkner’s birthday, he is 66 yrs old today. The Birkner bunch where all at Oscar’s today, fence fixing frolic. Bertille send a Thanksgiving card to Josie Keller & invited her out for Uncle Fred’s birthday.

Papa went up & voted this morn. It rained last night & sleet & ice this morn. Henry & Leona & Floyd where up for dinner. Rosalia went along up with them & voted. We sold 9 doz. eggs, at 27¢ doz. to Tecklenburg from Belleville.

Bertille is 18 yrs. old today. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary Henry’s family, Christ Buehler’s family where all here this eve, playing cards, music & singing, cake & beer where the refreshments.
Wednesday, Nov. 2, 1932
We went to 6 o clock mass. Ed Meng was here yesterday morn, wanted to buy hog for market price; but papa won’t sell none like that yet, for that price, 335 100 lbs corn. Arthur Budde, Cecil Starr husband, was here trying to trade cars, he is working for Berdeker Garage at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she went to church. Henry & family came up too; they sold almost all of there beef at Waterloo today. We had popcorn. Bertille went up to the dentist & paid $11.50, he had costumers [sic] waiting this morn. Steve Rennecker brought our trees along from Red Bud, what Kirsch replaced. There was stock sale at Rutz’s barn today. Christ Buehler bought 7 hogs 125 to 150 lbs. for $35.00, Steve said, corns brought $45 & $50.00. Wincklein Auctioneer. George Boll went around town selling beef today, he sold hindquarters 15 front 13 soup meat 11¢.
