Warmer today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon; got 1 lb. butter from us. Leona is back home again now, but not able to walk much yet. The Paderborn players have there play over again, tonite “Path Over the Hills,” sold 80 tickets the last time, Wed. nite. Eggs 22¢. Made hand cheese today.

Finished ironing, patched. We listened to the King George’s funeral service at London England from KMOK, started at 7 & finished 8:30; but there it was 1:30 in the afternoon. Mr. Chas D. Boll died last night 10:50 age 87 yrs; rang the bell this morning; he wasn’t ill very long; that is not bad sick. Eggs 23¢ here. Warmer this morn. 5 below zero in St. Louis. Steve Rennecker got qt. milk. Jac Earle was here on business.

We washed, ironed; Pap hauled wood this morn. Went to see Knab’s, but he wasn’t at home this afternoon. Mr. Mehrmann got 4 doz. eggs. 21¢. Beautiful night, not so cold.

Cold this morning, getting colder, radio said zero by tomorrow morning. Henry & boys were here, they crushing done. People from the other side of Belleville Klielpomp was here looking for sow & pigs, but ours was already sold. Eggs went up 1¢ on the radio today. There is a birthday dance at Pautlers, musci [sic] by Rythm [sic] Kings. Gents 25 ladies free. Pat May has one at Donahue’s. We listened to the radio till 10 o’clock, boy!

Hauptman, killer of Lindberg’s baby was to be put in electric chair today, but now has 30 more das [sic] radio said. Pap got load wood for basement. Cloudy today, east wind. pap got stuck going to the wood pile, & Jac Ganley pulled him put, he didn’t get no wood; he gave him 25¢. Mehrmann came got the eggs – 5 doz. 21¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came got there saussage [sic] & grease. Rose & Berti went to Waterloo, got Rose shoes fixed & went to Geodells to see Leona for hour; she is pretty good but can’t walk very good yet. Authur Mechler who worked in Jung’s store, is not employed at Philips gas station north R.3 highway. Vicint Heck have a baby boy, now has 4 children. Mrs Matt Stahlmann died of a Auto accident Christmas eve, was buried this week. Mrs Rob. Mertz is recovering slowly, was operated at St. Mary Hospital, some one gave pt. blood to her. Mr Geodelle is laid up with lumbago; Ray has swollen cheeks.

Pap & Rosalia went out to Henry’s did the feeding, & took the boy’s along too; put the hams away. Mr. Herbert of Belleville called said, he would take the black cow for $65. get her when the weather was fit, nasty out today, rainy & colder. Henry came this afternoon brought Billy [Willis] along to stay here. he thought Leona improved some, she is all yellow color, but hasn’t no pains in her stomach this morning; he stayed by Uncle Ed. in E. St. Louis, she has a private room, St. Marys Hospital. Rosa went out did the milking, brought the boy’s along again. We washed & ironed some today. Eggs 22¢ here in town.

Berti got the mail; not very much in it; Mrs. Pautler of Red Bud 94 yr. old was buried yesterday, Dr. N.B. Pautlers mother. The homes of Frank Einwich & Oscar Gremp & Rev. Kochkeim were on blaze during these cold days & nites & high winds; but not much damage was done to either place. Pap was up at Probsts garage, this morning the new battery didn’t work right; he went out to Henry’s this afternoon, & then they went up to make wood. Eggs are only 24¢ today. Bert was talking to Emil in town & he says Uncle Adam’s very well at all. Leona is also down in bed again, papa said when he came home; she has malaria.

Terrible cold this morning, real zero weather. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, he went to Waterloo, Eggs 26¢. Mr. & Mrs. Cyrus Holcomb of Belleville, nee Lela Deuker have a little baby girl born at the hospital on last Tues. 17, Lela has a beauty parlor on W. Washington St. Berti took a chance for 5¢ on basket canned goods; at Eichenseer’s. The Catholic School children has there play tonite; ends school for 2 weeks.

Cleaned hen house. Rose got the papers, ordered the license $18.78 this year. Whip was the same price $12.00 but chev. is only $6.50. We went to Ruma to Myerscoughs & Tiptown to Colemans, & Dugan’s to see about pigs. Mr. Mehrman got the eggs 31¢. Miss Lena Geodelle of Waterloo, Henry Geodelle’s daughter is at St. Marys Hospital for treatments. Dorthy Myerscough is attending Normal College; at Normal, Ill; is home for holidays. Florence goes to High School at Red Bud; Margret is still at the convent, & can’t come home for 2 years.
