Ironed. Aunt Mary is 60 yrs. old today. They came this evening & we went along to Red Bud to euchre, Uncle Fred had 9 points got apron, pap 8 & Bert 7, but didn’t get no prize; Leroy Siefert got attendance prize, magazaine [sic] table; pillow slips that were raffled were won by Mrs. Otto Huch. There is to be 200 people from Cairo brought into Red Bud tonite, in Gym. left 400 at Chester, also took train load to St. Louis they say.
Sunday, Jan. 24, 1937
Went to mass at Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile, then went home. Leo, Rose & Isd. came for dinner, played cards this afternoon, Henry & family came, took pap & Bert along out to Uncle Fred’s, the rest to, went all for supper celebrating Aunt Mary’s birthday; played 6 hand pinochle. Raining & freezing all day long.

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped awhile after mass. Mr. Nic Cortner & Wiffred were here, on business. Leo came & we all went along out to Henry’s, played cards.
Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1937
Still cloudy & raining, warm, the ice is melting away. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came brought a few articles, what we need for that day. Leo & Rosalia went to Belleville on business. Loyd & Mr. Ed Pabst came this morn. brought load corn. Sure is funny weather. Leo stayed for supper, we played cards. Rose had 1000 aces, pap 600 queens, Bert 1000 aces & twice 400 jacks, some real games.
Thursday, Jan. 7, 1937
Raining nearly all day. Went to Belleville this afternoon looked at some furniture’s stores. Telephone meeting at Geo. Wagners tonite. Pap & Bertie went over, drop tax is also due so it was $1.50 this mo. We played cards, then 6 hand & 5; ended pretty much even; had apples.
Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1936
We washed, ironed, patched; cleaned upstairs took the tree & decorations down. Some guys here this afternoon wanted to use our sheet [? – unclear] to unload some mules, 1 had been lying down in there, they were afraid it would get killed; & they got stuck in the yard, before they even got that far; some time, cut tracks over the whole place, & didn’t even say as much as thank you, came from way down in Mo. some place. Ed. Meng came yet to & Clarence Wagner. The St. Augustine School, they have lotto & euchre tonite given by the Young Ladies Sodality. Geo. Wagner butchered today. Found 3 doz. eggs. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here, & pap & Bert went along up to the euchre party, the quilt by playing 1 game lotto was won by Joe Watchel, we didn’t get a thing. Pap had 7 & Bert 4 & A. Mary 2 & Uncle Fred 12 he got a table cloth, the prizes were nice, but not very many & hall was filled, all the tables, surely nice crowd lot of N. Athens & Paderborn. Fr. Teonnies was also down. Leo & Rose went to see Geo. Orlet by Floraville.

Rained heavy last nite. Josie Keller came & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary for dinner & supper, played cards. Leo & Rose went to Paderborn to see Fr. Teonnies. Beautiful day.

Went to Red Bud mass. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came awhile after church. We went out to Henry’s, had dinner & supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came also in afternoon we played cards & seen the kids presents from Santa Claus, had lot of nice things. Mr. & Mrs. Orlet & Leo came this evening.
Saturday, Dec. 26, 1936
Cleaned. Rained a little, warm & cloudy. We got a electric lamp from J. Keller for Christmas bucket style. We got an invitation for Is. Helfrichs birthday dance at Floraville at Kern’s tonite, also is V. Cortner’s. Advent is over, dances start again, Oak Grove has one, give $1. for attendance price every hr. tonite. Pautler’s has double birthday dance tomorrow nite all free. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner, he went to Waterloo & to Red Bud this afternoon. Played cards.
Friday, Dec. 25, 1936
Christmas Day. Went to 5 o clock mass; lasted till 7 o’clock had solemn High mass 3 priests; Church was crowded. It rained a little when we came out of church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Henry & family & Leo were all here for dinner & supper, had 2 ducks. Sure beautiful day, had the doors open all day, after dinner sat on the back porch on north side, so nice an warm. We played cards afternoon & evening. Rose went along with Leo to his folks tonite.
