We had a nice shower rain last night, & this morning it is cool. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary bought some beef & made soup, then they brought it here, & Henry & family where all here for dinner. Roy Stauenbiel came to see if Aunt Mary could help them cook tomorrow, because it is thrashing day. She is. We where all over at Aunt Mary’s for lunch this afternoon, they bought 25¢ ice cream & we helped to eat it. Hecker ball team first & played Smithton Pontiac’s, in favor of Smithton.

Today the machines go, there is Homecoming at New Athens, & Circus at Belleville. Papa went down to see Ed. Pabst’s, this morning to see the crops there. He bought 12 tiling from the town for 60¢. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon, we all had lunch there & this evening we sat on there porch, watching fireworks at New Athen’s & at George Wagner’s. We had music & singing. Joe Schilling finished threshing today & pulled out in the prariere [sic-prairie] are up by Paderborn. He threshed 2214 bus, with oats & wheat.

There sure was a pretty rainbow in the west this morning. Wilma Birkner was here & brought a pattern. We had a nice shower rain this afternoon. I seen in the paper Red Finnerty died, he was the mail carrier at Burksville. It was a pretty lucky day last Sun, for the Hecker Baseball Teams, Athen’s & the fist [sic] team played 3 to 4 in favor or Hecker, the second team played Round Prarie [sic], 3 to 1 in favor of Hecker. There where 2 young chickens killed on the hard road today.

We finished digging our potatoes this morning, it was nice & cool. Joe Schilling started thrashing his wheat today. Ed Wittenauer’s is also thrashing wheat. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon, they sold there onions, 90¢ a bu. they had 3 bus., sold them to Braun’s. We got a letter from Burkhardt, receiver of Hecker Bank, a check for $9.75, paying out 15¢ [possibly mean percent] now, to everybody. Emery Kreher’s baby died, 10 mos. old & was buried at Paderborn. In today’s paper was that 500 people died at Chicago. It is clouding up again, for rain, & it came. Rosalia got some ice cream this evening, it sure was good.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up again today for lunch, dinner. They finished digging potatoes, Papa & Bertille helped. Rosalia finished her dress & one for Bertille. Kuhn’s is thrashing by Meng’s today, he has been thrashing for 3 day all ready & ain’t finished yet, he can’t get the help no more now. Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s this afternoon to get a hair cut. Clarence Wittenauer was also there, he hauled a load of coal for him. Tonight Ed. Parker’s are having another Public Barn Dance, but the weather looked bad, then it turned out to be right nice anyway, we didn’t go. He just came even up. The musci [sic] was strangers, Myers Bros.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here for lunch, dinner, lunch, & supper. Aunt Mary started cutting Rosalia’s dress, so she can sew it yet today. Oliver Birkner was here & got the pattern again, we cut it off.

Today is washing, ironing patching day. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner & supper. Henry & Leona went to Belleville & left the kids here, they & Bertille ate lunch at Aunt Mary’s this afternoon. Aunt Mary & Rosalia drove up to Wm. Birkner’s & got a dress pattern, which she got from Munier’s from St. Louis. We finished digging our potatoes along the road this evening.

Henry & Roy was here in Hecker this morn but he didn’t go to church, he wants to cut oats today so after dinner we went out there. Geodell’s family & Emil & later Aunt Mary & Uncle Fred came. But every ones [sic] in a while they broke something. We slept down stairs tonight, it was to hot.

Henry & Emil had lunch, dinner, lunch here. Hy. Armstutz was also here for dinner he helped to schock some today. Henry cut his oats for him too, & he smashed the binder all to pieces, he says he won’t be able to cut his at home anymore with it. He is finished up here now. Karl Boll & Marcella Ettling are being married & gave a dance at Brezzy [sic] Hill. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry & Leona all went, but we didn’t. Bill Herzog furnished the musci [sic], they say it sure was some bum wedding dance, not many people, all was outside. She was dressed with a white dress & hat, shoes & pale pink stockings. Buddy & a girl from St. Louis where the attendants. We all went over to Rennecker’s this evening, Jake Klein’s family where also there, celebrating Steve’s birthday. He got a 1 gal. ice cream & Oh Boy was it good in hot weather?

Henry & Emil where here for lunch, dinner & lunch. He Sure had trouble today with his binder, I guess if that wouldn’t of happened, he would of been done up here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon & evening, she brought a 1/2 gal. cherries along. I can 1/2 pint. It is awful warm these day, generally around 96° & 98° to 100! Vic Eichenseer was down today.
