Made Pumpkin pie. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came we all went to Hornberger’s sale, on Louis Schilling’s Srs. farm, south Burskville [sic – Burksville], bought few articles; met school teacher Schilling, & Mr. & Mrs. Lhad of Columbia. Barry May sale cryer, Vccins Walsh, auctioneer, Maniers have a dance again & music Herzog’s nite Owls; Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had supper here; Pete Ganley & family, Weehler, stopped in on a short call, bought 2 hams, & 20 lbs. hens, we have nothing but sausage left.

It rained during the night; little cloudy this morn. Martin May is to have his sale this afternoon; we went, through Blackjacks the road wasn’t so bad; we gave Leona 1 bu ½ tomatoes. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, brought there lard to Braun’s 5½ trade.
Saturday, Sept. 23, 1933
It rained all nite, & this morn. Papa went to Hecker. Martin May was to have sale today, but I guess the rain spoiled it, we didn’t go; it is still raining a little. We got letter from J. Schmidt, payed [sic] out 9 1/9% from the bank again we got $5.93 this time. Harry Kammler has a dance tonite, Dixie Blue Boy’s Adm. 25¢ each; not very much of a crowd; we went up to Eichenseer’s took it all in.

The log men stopped again this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came we all went to Ripplimeyer sale by Maeystown. Henry & family came to celebrated Rosalia’s birthday, we had watermelon, cake,. Fr. Aydt came about 8 & stayed till 10.
Wednesday, Aug. 30, 1933
We canned 7 qts damson plums 5 qts. sourkraut [sic], 2 peaches, 1 tomatoe this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came we went to Mike Maher’s sale Waterloo, bought all kind of articles; Uncle Fred got 2 tables for 15¢, they had supper here, then papa & Uncle took the truck & went after the rest of the things they bought.

Jung was here & paid his debts. A lady around selling vanilla, 3 bottles $1.00, we sent her of [sic – off]. Uncle Joe was here paid Rosalia for threshing $1.50. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & we went to Wm. Gregson’s sale, didn’t buy anything; big sale. Ralph Collier was to have his property sold, to but it wasn’t today, Uncle Pete is going to forclose [sic] the mortage [sic – mortgage]. Ralph’s wife is in St. Louis, she is suing him for divorce, it comes of in Sept. court.
Wednesday, Aug. 9, 1933
Papa took Rosalia as far as the hills & Henry met her there. Canned 2 qts greengages. Papa & Rob culling manure. Mr. Leo Wittenauer & Miss Katherine Daley of St. Louis where married there last Wed. Aug. 2. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up, she brought some more greengages, so now we have 13 qts; they where here for lunch. Papa went down to Geo. Lorberg’s sale with Osie Neff; he sold dairy cows, 3 of them, higest [sic] $55 the rest where bought back, & Bruns bought engine, Hinkel crusher & belt; it was a very large crowd, papa said. Mr. Ed Schinder was here, started cutting the hay for second time. Aunt Mary helped to cut Roberts shirt out, & sewed it.

We all went to sale by Waterloo today but we did not get anything. Irene Neff got married today. Aunt Melissa is alful [sic] bad sick the doctor gave up hopes.

Seen in the paper quite a few people from Waterloo attended the World’s Fair; at Chicago the past week. Mrs. Wm. Scheider got her divorce last Mon, he has to paid $75 alimony. Mr. Frank Finnerty is going to have a sale July 29, also Julius Stensel, Aug. 19. Ralph Collier had the Whiteside property for sale, just the place, Papenberg live there.

We washed, ironed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & rode along with us to a sale. Shields by Burksville, everything went cheap, implements all $45.00; cows $5 a piece, horses $303 & 3 mules $30; we went through Red Bud home & brought 100 lbs. flour along from F. Buehler. Bertille took the eggs up 9¢ today. Mr. & Mrs. Joe Schilling & Odillo just came back from there trip to Indiana, Odil says everything is so nice there. Frances took the habit on Sun, her name is Sister Edmundina; he seen S. Eith & Achatia, & several others that he knew, 814 miles trip; they left Indiana at quarter after 9, & got to Hecker about quarter to 9. Maniers slot machines got stolen Sat. night, money & all. It was in the paper the surprise marriage of Lela Deucker to Cyrus Holcomb of Freeburg, where wed at Collinsville in the Lutheran church, on May 21, Miss Ethel Dueker & friend where best.
