Went to Red Bud mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile. Conner of Paderborn was here wants an old horse. Miss Reickert of Waterloo came, Bert [Bertille] went along showed her where Uncle Freds live; she bought the piece of furniture with drawers from them for $2.50 they paid 10 [cents] at Crook’s sale. Bill [Klein] came this afternoon. There was an accident by John Krehers, cars from Lebanon turned around & Geo. Parker & Muskoff driving Clarence Wittenauers car, smashed into them people from other car were taken to Belleville in Dashners ambulance, Parker & Muskoff never got hurt, but car was pulled to Red Bud to Schrieber’s for repairs; claim was the Lebanon car fault.

Wednesday, Aug. 31, 1938

Pap hauled posts, has wood & all hauled now, got corn fodder from U. [Uncle] Freds. Went to barber shop got hair cut & shave. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up again this morn. cutting corn etc. The Wedding picture of Pete Kaiser 31 & Adella Karban 20 was in paper were married last Sat. morn. in St. Louis, in St. Peter & Paul’s Church. Attendants Bertha Karban her sister, & Lawrence Kaiser, cousin to groom. Wore white dress with long veil, carried flowers, Lilies, nice picture. Mrs. Emma Bechtold of Waterloo passed away 57 yrs. will be buried at Waterloo this afternoon; has 4 children, 1 boy Armin, 3 girls Ida Wright, Malinda Valmeyer & only 1 single Viola; also the boy was at home. Arthur Dour & Reickert girl are being married today, dance at Keims, Floraville.

Friday, July 15, 1938

Nice day. Henry & family came yesterday afternoon boys stayed here & Bert [Bertille] went along to Belleville, got new dress & things. Geo. Walzbacher’s only child girl Mary Elizabeth 4 yrs. old died at St. Marys Hospital brief illness says in paper. Mr. Joe Rieckert celebrated his 98th birthday on July 9. still hole & hearty, still pratices [sic] law yet. Walter Nobbe & Al Hoffmann were here, trying to trade cars again, now he offers $150. for chev. but we won’t trade yet with him, wait longer. Harry Wittenauer came going to thresh oats here by tomorrow.
