We put the brooder stove up & put the little chicks out there now, 44 of them so far. Bertille’s shoes came today. Ed Pabst was here this afternoon, he wanted papa to buy the clover seed, but Papa won’t do that.

Frying down bacon today. It is real spring weather doors open. Eggs are 12¢ at Eichenseer’s some price. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon. Uncle Fred went to Red Bud, & she stayed here. Hy. brought a hog up here & took some more of his oats along home. Ed Pabst brought the last of our corn today. We went up to Mamie’s, looked at quilts & such like & this evening. Not very long ago Pete Watchel had some of his fruit stolen out of cellar.

We washed, hung it in the basement, it rained all day. Loyd Pbast [sic-Pabst] brought a load of corn & also Henry brought one this morn. Papa went up to Vic Eichenseers & sugar cured there meat for them. It was warm yesterday & today again.

We went to Waterloo this afternoon on business. Papa went over to see Ettling on the way back. Ed Pabst brought us a load of corn. John Braun brought his sow here again. Baked cookies this eve, after supper.
Monday, Nov. 2, 1931
Papa & Rosalia went to Henry’s this morn, he is butchering a heifer today, or a cow rather, Osie Neff is the butcher. They had dinner there. Henry & Rosalia went around selling it this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up to plant out rose bushes, then they went to Chris Buehler’s. Ed Pabst was here & brought us 9 bus. big late potatoes. Oliver Birkner was here & got Mrs. Stehfest scale, that she left in Henry’s machine. There was people here from St. Louis that wanted to buy lard, but ours was all sold. Melba Hepp gave a Micellanoues [sic] Shower at there home last Thurs. night in honore of Miss Lidyia Thovenenot who will become the bride of Clarence Hepp in the near future. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here awhile this evening, then they went to Ed Parker’s, he had to furnished musci [sic], it was a surprize [sic] for Anna Marie her birthday. He got $2.00 for the musci [sic].
Friday, Oct. 16, 1931
The license of Clarence Pabst & 24 & Irene Voges 21 where in the paper, today so a wedding soon. Vic Eichenseer was here & brought 110 lbs. tankage. Henry came up & brought a load of corn. Fr. Grootens was by Joe Watchel’s today. We all went out to Henry’s had apple puling [sic] frolic, Geodells, Gus & Joe & family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, they brought a watermelon along, we had that, cake, cookies & wine.

We cleaned the furnace out today. Francis Eichenseer went down with 2 trucks this morning, he has Clarence Pabst driving his old truck & he drives a new one. Bertille went over to Hill’s & paid telephone dues $1.00. He wasn’t at home. Tonight is meeting there. We got 24¢ for eggs today.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this morn – they where here for lunch, dinner, lunch & supper. We threshed this afternoon. Leona & kids came up to, we had them all for lunch. We threshed 91½ bus. wheat & Henry threshed 658 bus. oats. We got altogether, 218 from Henry, 43 bus. Pabst, & 17 from Armstutz.

We all drove to Belleville this morning & sold some sp. chickens for 20¢ & eggs for 20¢. Adam Eckert’s are moving out today. Yesterday was Smithton Homecoming & Singer fest in Millstadt but I guess the rain spoiled it all. Ed Pabst was here & brought our oats up, 43 bus. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here for supper this evening, they came from Eckert up here. We had spring chicken supper. We got 1 can of pickles now.

Today Ed Pabst’s is threshing, papa has to go down around eleven oclock & also Eichenseers. Edwin Reheis has a little girl since last Sat. Rosalia & Bertille went to church this morning when Hy. Braun was getting buried. It was a large funeral. This afternoon we went out to Parker’s, they didn’t take it to church, they went from the house to the cemetery. The baby was 7 mo. old. Koch had both funerals. Papa went to Pabst’s, he had dinner there, we got 62 bus. for our share but we are 5 short now. So I don’t know how it will be now. Vic & Odillo hauled it here, they where both here for lunch.
