Geo. Sensel has sale this afternoon, awful cold, Adolph Schaefer from Waterloo bought the farm & will move out soon. Papa was up town this afternoon, they told him there it was a pretty big crowd at the sale & everything brought a fair price. It started in to snow this morning but not long.
Saturday, Feb. 27, 1932
Bert Thompson was here & looked at our sows again. Papa got crushing done this morning, this afternoon he went to the woods to mark the trees what Ettling should take for posts & then he went down below Waterloo to a sale, bought 45¢ iron & boxes, single trees & such like. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here & then they went to visit Mike Armstutz’s. They stayed up in Hecker.
Sunday, Feb. 14, 1932
We went to Red Bud to church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner, & played cards awhile then went home. Mrs. Rennecker was saying this morn. that Mrs. Elmer Kammler is pretty bad sick, she has an awful bad cold. Robert Laut bought the old Mrs. Laut’s place & is going to move up to Hecker, when school is out & Mr. & Mrs. Laut are going by Elmer Kammlers, because Mr. Laut ain’t able to word [sic – work] any more, he can’t carry a bucket of water or a armful of wood.
Monday, Jan. 25, 1932
Today is wash & iron & patching. Sewed all our aprons. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here this evening, they came after Josie, she was down at Ben Heyl’s today, we played 5 & 6 handed pinochle. Lester Gregson is moving to Hecker in Gambach’s house, he moved some today. Aunt Mary said Edwin Watchel’s windows where smashed in, but she don’t know what happened.
Sunday, Jan. 24, 1932
Went to Red Bud church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner & supper. Josie Keller is spending today & tomorrow in Hecker visiting friends. Aunt Mary went to the mission service this afternoon. Henry & family where here this evening playing 5 hand pinochle. Bert Tomphson was here to look at our pigs. Leona said Eliza Freund & Kruse where published for first time this morn. & Pearl Geodell second & Slyvanus Schroeder last time.
Thursday, Jan. 21, 1932
It is just pouring down rain. The mission is supposed to start tonight in St. Augustine Parish. Papa went up town this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon & got Josie Keller, she came here & then we played 6 handed pinochle game. She took the goods & patterns along to mark of [sic- off] a quilt.
Sunday, Jan. 3, 1932
We went to Red Bud church this morn. Christ Buehler’s family were all at Red Bud church too they are finished in Hecker, Fr. Grootens told him either pay pew rent or take his children out of school, so tomorrow he will sent his kids to Red Bud school. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner, this afternoon we went out there had supper, Uncle Adam & Emil where also there, played pinochle. Ed Meng was here this morn, to see Uncle Fred. Tonight Mr. & Mrs. Steve Rennecker & George Wagner’s family where here played cards. Steve held 1000 Aces & George had 300 pinochle & 150 trumps. & In the same game Rosalia had 1500 trump. The St. Mary’s players are giving a play in the School Hall tonight Adm. 35.

Today is anniversary of Hecker bank closed. There is church tonight. Both churches. It sure was a beautiful Christmas, so warm we had the doors open. Sure ain’t much winter weather.

Papa was up town this afternoon. Zita [?] Staufenbiel & husband moved out to her mother’s here in Hecker. We went up to see Angela this evening, papa stayed at the store.
