Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for lunch this morning. We & Henry & family went out to Uncle Fred’s & Aunt Mary’s for dinner & supper. We played pinochle and victrola. This evening they came up here. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & then we all went to the euchre in the School Hall. For a prize they took a little washtub & Aunt Mary got it back again, she had 8 points. We took a flower vase there, but none of us got anything. Papa & Bertille had six points & Rosalia 2 points. There was quite a crowd there. George Parker’s have a little baby boy since yesterday, they got it christened today. They called it Virgil. Paul & Anna Marie were sponsors. Joe Kaisers have a little boy since last week, Christmas Eve. William Schaefers also have a little boy since last week.

Today is Rosie Meuth’s birthday, she is 18 years old. Papa was out at Henry’s today. They started laying tiling across the street now. Walter Pour’s have a little baby girl since last Wed. night, they now have 4 girls and 2 boys. We cut cabbage in this morning about 2 gallons.
Monday, Oct. 6, 1930
Papa is hauling coal again today. They took Mrs. Louis Armstutz over to East St. Louis Hospital, last Friday afternoon. Mr. & Mrs. August Klotz have a little girl since Sat. afternoon, they now have 2 girls. Rosalia took 8 doz. eggs to the store & got .25¢ a doz. for them. The Young Men & Ladies Sodality of St. Augustine’s Parish was to meet in the new school hall tonight, but was postponed on account of rain. Papa finished hauling coal today, he has 210 bu’s. in the coal cellar now. He paid $18.90 for 210 bu’s. We found 33 eggs today. The ambulance that went through Hecker last Sunday, was that they took a man to the Red Bud Hospital, he got hurt while working by Smithton on the Gulf Pipe Line Co.

I have seen the paper that Arthur Matlock from Waterloo have a little boy at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, it was born last Monday. Nick Schaefer’s second youngest daughter, Maggie, was taken to the hospital last Sat. night and was operated on for appendix. Henry Meng got his finger smashed between 2 large rocks, he now has his arm & fingers in a sling. The St. Louis baseball team played here Sunday with Hecker the score was 8 to 15 in favor of Hecker. It is reported that Clem Parker lost a valuable horse last Sat. from heat. Bertille was up town and got the paper this morning. Mrs. Gene Meckler from Waterloo, they took her to the Hospital at Red Bud. We baked cookies, washed, ironed, cleaned upstairs today. It is Albert Cleveland’s birthday today. Yesterday it was their wedding anniversary 18 years married & tomorrow night they are going to have a dance. Emma Braun brought Mrs. Rennecker home this evening. Papa & Rosalia went down to Geo. Vonderheit’s this afternoon and got the spring buggy home, what Papa bought for .30¢. Steve Rennecker and his wife were over this evening a little while. Roman Meng came over and told us that our colt was out, something was chasing it, I guess a dog. It ran through the wire fence, it has a cut on the breast & one on leg behind. We put some lard & turpentine on it right away. Mrs. Rennecker said that Mr. Dehn ain’t no better yet, no changes she said. Dr. Eckert’s father is awful bad sick too.
