Pap got crushing done. Henry & Floyd were here. Sure getting colder again, warm yesterday, & cold all at once; suppose to be zero tonite. Eggs 25¢ today. Sold cheese & butter to Wagners.

Papa hauled wood all day. Rose went out to Henry’s this afternoon, cleaned etc. We went out to Uncle Freds, took 1 lb. butter, cheese milk along for them. Bernice brought the mail. Seen Archie Whiel has the mumps.
Thursday, Feb. 6, 1936
Pap went to Waterloo, got flour & egg mash, Rosalia went along out to Henry’s, took the wash along & put it away. Billy [Willis] & Robert has the mumps now. Berti cleaned dining room, washed & ironed curtains. The Umbrella man & a fellow selling broom holders were here; S. Renneker got 1 qt. milk. Eggs 23¢ today. Warmer; radio says snow.

Ironed, sewed shirts, patched. Pap went to Vogel’s sale at Burksville, didn’t buy anything. He got a letter from a fellow at Columbia, Lutmann, wanted to buy a sow & pig. Wegener of Evansville looked at our mare, but was to small. S. Rennecker got 1 qt. milk. Alice Glessner of Waterloo has a birthday dance at Pautler’s tonite, Rythm Knigs [sic] playing. The relief workers at Lorbergs quarry on Pleguer’s farm Ray Braun manager, got there paychecks today. J. Reagean walks down every morning; reports, but they don’t work.
Monday, Feb. 3, 1936
St. Blase. We wanted to go to mass, but the weather was terrible this morning, fog & sleet ice, one car turned 4 times around, in front of Laut’s house; papa seen it. We washed, made cheese & 2½ lbs. butter. Kunklemann was here looked at the mare. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped in a little, then went to see Chris Buehlers, Linus & Iona aren’t feeling well. Quite a few around town got the mumps. Clara Wagner got 1 lb. butter 30¢ & Rennecker got 1 lb. & 5¢ milk; Eggs 23¢ Wheat $1.

Pap got crushing done, then went to Red Bud to see Burdgorf, but he wasn’t at home; he went to see Hartmann; Mr. J. Eshmann of Columbia, was here wanted to buy sow, also looked at the cow; Mr. Kunkelmann was here wanted to see dad. He went to Hellmers sale at Red Bud; bought 15¢, flower stand, bread board, sprinkle can; Mr. Faust was buried this afternoon at Red Bud, 8 cars passed by, wasn’t very large. Snowing tonite. Jimmie & Dick played at Stolbergs Lake tonite at Belleville.

Pap got crushing done; Henry & boy’s came up to. Pap, Steve Rennecker, Rob. Laut went to Pete Dehn’s sale, everything was high price, they said; Burdgorf was here looked at the cattle. Steve got 5¢ milk tonite. Joe Manier’s got fish fry tonite. Henry was saying, John Kern is in jail, scraping with Mosio; took our quilt out of the frame today. Rose & Berti name went over the radio today, but they didn’t say requested for Aunt Mary’s birthday, Jimmie & Dick played. Mexican Trail; The German Band, played one for a lady at Evansville this afternoon; Sure got good program tonite from Dismoinies [sic – Des Moines] Iowa; lot of good riddles & jokes.

In St. Louis it was 11 degrees below zero, this morning, pretty cold; but some places it is 66 & 55 below, tonight it is to be zero here, getting warmer, snow this morn, now sunshine. Papa went to Red Bud to see butcher & paid pew rent; Went to Mertz, wants to ship our calf. Hartmann of below Red Bed was here, looked at the horse. Mrs. A. Eckert & Roland Birkner’s birthday anniversary; this is the coldest weather ever been here, they claim; anyway when you ain’t use to it; have to making fire all the time. Calf 13¢.

Pap went to see Herbert by Belleville this afternoon. Snowing this morning & Boy! is it getting cold, the radio says 10 to 15 below zero in Missouri, Boy! that will be cold; The Dramatics Club of Paderborn was to give a play tonite “Path Aross [sic] the Hills.”

We washed, ironed; Pap hauled wood this morn. Went to see Knab’s, but he wasn’t at home this afternoon. Mr. Mehrmann got 4 doz. eggs. 21¢. Beautiful night, not so cold.
