Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary are up, she went to church. Pap went out in the woods all day. Rose got some honey for Leona from Mrs. Rennecker yesterday; she has the mumps now; since yesterday morn; all swollen this morn. Mr. Ed Pabst came, went up in the woods to see dad; he wants to rent the ground again. There is all kind of bargain sales, the Mahler Clothing Store of Waterloo, delivered paper sale, beginning tomorrow, house slippers 09¢, suits $5. for men, ladies dress $1. silk spring coats $1.99, closing out sale, for 2 days, they just began about 3 weeks ago. The new store here in town Ray Wittenauers has posters around, opening special sale Sat., also buy poultry & eggs; & giving a souvenirs, & food, sample demonstration.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, she went to mass. Pap went in the woods. We finished our quilting, Star quilt. Uncle Fred hauled load wheat to Waterloo & got $1.03, she stayed here only; Ed. Brand’s birthday today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to New Athens, got her lace collar again from the show at Geigers store, she received a little tablecloth to stitched, gave it to us.

Berti ironed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came, she went to mass. Pap went out in the woods. Mrs. Hy. Birkner is awful sick again, they don’t allow no visitors now. Frieda Buehler is out there now. Uncle Fred hauled wheat to Red Bud, got 99¢; she helped to quilt awhile they came again this evening Rose went along to church; the church was packed; Fr. Simion asked & answered questions this eve.

Pap & Rose went to mass. Fr. Aydt had it, Stern is sick in Red Bud hospital. Beautiful day. Ed. Parker was here.
Saturday, Feb. 29, 1936
Leap year. Papa went in the woods all day. Wagners got 1 lb. butter & cheese. Renncker, 1 lb. butter, 1 pt. cheese, Lauts ½ butter, 1 pt. cheese. Henry stopped in he got crushing done. Eggs dropped again 21¾¢ on radio. Beautiful day. There was a sale at Ruma, painted dishes, lot of furniture & license. Good radio nite.

Papa went working in the woods all day. S. Rennecker got milk. Ed Pabst came to see pap, he can’t rent the ground this year. Loyd is working at the foundry at Belleville now. Kalbfleisch of Millsdadt looked at the mare. Leo Kohler of Waterloo bought the Dalkert residence on South Church St. & Mrs. Aug. Wagner bought Ralph Collins place.

Berti has the mumps on both sides. Pap went in the woods this afternoon. Clara Wagner came & got 3 cheese balls for 10¢ sell them 40 doz. Colder this morning, ground frozen hard. Made 2 lbs. butter.
Saturday, Feb. 22, 1936
Washington Birthday. Pap got crushing done this morn. Henry did also, stopped here awhile. Floyd has the mumps now. Mrs. Renneker came & got some cottage cheese, also Lauts & a fellow here yesterday from Millsdat [sp] – looking for shoats, we sent him out to Henry’s, he bought them – 6 – $35. They say Walter Neff & Slyveria Helfrich are being married in St. Louis today.

Pap hauling wood. There is a big piece in the paper about Wilfred Koch of Red Bud, he had a accident in Washington Park, they also found a girl lying dead 5 miles from his accident, now he is held for manslaughter, hearing before Justice of Peace in E. St. Louis will be held today. H [Henry?] went in the woods this afternoon. Renthsdorf of Waterloo & Gerti Van De Reit of Tiptown were married last sat. afternoon at Red Bud, priest house; the attendants being Koopmann & Laber of Waterloo.

Made cheese, washed. Pap went to Martin Fahey’s. Berti took the eggs to the store; 25¢ hogs $11.05 today. We didn’t get to hear “Amos & Andy,” nothing worked, funny.
