We sure did have some rain last night. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here for lunch this afternoon then her, & Bertille went over to Ed. Meng’s, took them some flower, & brought some of there’s back. Mrs. Rennecker canned 41 qts. of cherries, she still has a few on the tree yet. Papa is setting posts today. Jac. Helfrich & his wife where injured in an automobile accident in Belleville the other day. Mr. Laut & Stuart where talking to Papa in the field this afternoon, Mr. Hill & Meng also. Mr. Klinkhardt from St. Louis is out visiting in Hecker by Mrs. Pour. Mr. Hill & him & others where playing pinoche at Griffins this morning & this afternoon. Her is leaving with bus this evening.

Papa & Rosalia went to Belleville this morning with our 2 hogs. They left about 5:30 got $6.40 a lb for them took them to Streck’s, at Belleville. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for lunch this afternoon. Papa went out this morning to Henry’s to help him with the hay. He was there for dinner, lunch & supper. Johnny Krehres boy was here after school & invited us for a dance at there place. So this evening we all went there & had a good time, the crowd was rather large. They danced in the barn, Herman Kettler furnished the musci [sic]. Today is Pearl Griffin’s birthday, she is 20 yrs. old today.

We washed, ironed, patched today. This morning the assessor Wm. Sensel was here, John Reagan came & wanted to know if it was all right for him to throw his chicken manure in our oats field but it was soft in there, so he throwed it in the stubble ground closed by. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here, Uncle Fred went down to Red Bud & she went to Wm. Birkners, & Louis Birkners, but nobody at home on either place. They where here for lunch. Joe Griffin was around electioneering, today is town election. He & Elmer Kammler running for town mayor. Papa went up & gave him his vote for Joe, & a citizen thicket [ticket]. It is cold again, we covered our tomato plants, because some said, we was gong to have a frost tonight, but we didn’t.
Sunday, Nov. 30, 1930
Papa went to first mass this morning. It is raining again this morning. Mamie Eichenseer was down this afternoon, she had supper with us. This evening Steve Rennecker came over a little while and had pinochle game. Papa & Rosalia were partners & won 2 games out of 8. Steve & Bertille were partners. Papa went up to Griffins this afternoon. The roads are awful muddy. Lester Gregson slipped in the ditch this morning hauling milk out in the prairie.

Today is Thanksgiving. Uncle Fred’s are going to butcher, they are getting 2 fat hogs from Walter Stahl for .9¢ delivered. Tonight is to be Box Supper in the Church Hall. We all went out to Uncle Fred’s today. We stayed for supper. Oscar Birkner’s family & Henry Brand were also helping. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up here this evening & then we all went to the Box Supper. There we danced first & then afterwards sold the boxes, there were 7 boxes to sell. They were sold as follows: Helen Braun, Rex Rapp, Verna Stiehl, Clarence Braun, Marie Truttman, Ray Braun, Angela Eichenseer, Fr. Grootens, Pearl Griffins, Victor Braun, Rosella Braun, Ben Schilling, Alvera Braun, Olivia Pour. The highest box brought $1.50, Rex Rapp’s bought it. The only ones that eat together were Angela & Fr. the rest all left for a Smithton dance.

Today it is a year that Stella Griffin died. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary came up this morning & Papa & Uncle Fred got rocks from the city lot & brought them here and laid crossings. Aunt Mary fixed Rosalia’s dress & then she dyed it purple. They were here for lunch, dinner, lunch. Leona was here this morning and brought Bobby & Floyd here, they stayed all day with us & this evening Henry & Leona came up after them.

Bertille went to church this morning. Feast of ‘Corpus Christie.’ Today is Odillo Eichenseer’s birthday. He is 18 years old. He is going to celebrate tomorrow night in Kammler’s Hall. Papa is digging post holes this morning. He is going to put up a straw shed for the horses. They have a big piece in the paper of Fr. Schlarman becoming Bishop. Today he has a big time for all the children. Bertille took 2 1/2 dozen eggs off. Eggs are .19¢ a dozen. Fr. Grootens wanted Papa to come and help on the new school today, but I told him he was too busy. He had to set posts for a straw shed. So then he called for Adam Brand but I don’t think he answered. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were there this evening. Uncle Fred helped Papa put the posts on. Papa went up town this evening. Albert Griffin a student at the University of Illinois graduated and can be anything he wants to in the case of law or anything else. Irene Reheis also graduated from Belleville High School.

Papa was out at Henry’s today helping to make hay. He had dinner & lunch out there. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this afternoon a little while. Rosalia was up at Griffins this morning helping to clean up, wash the dishes & pack things away again. Eggs are .17¢ today. There was a man out at Henry’s today and left a washing machine there to demonstrate. It runs by gas. Leona intends to wash her quilts tomorrow with it.
