Went to Red Bud. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came down, had dinner here, we played cards. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile; this morn. We went to Paderborn, closing of Mission church was crowded. Fr. Aydt, Spors priests present. Fr. Teonnies is very ill; Missionary was pretty nice & made good sermons.
Sunday, Dec. 12, 1937
Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary had dinner here played cards. 4 games. Emil’s birthday. Gregsons were all by him. Tonite is Solemn closing of Mission, & the begining [sic] at Paderborn. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came, went along with us to closing of Mission, but boy! what a nite, raining & slick, coming home going down Round Prairie Hill, our car turned around 2 times around boy it sure was awful, but turned out alright, they didn’t have the cinders put on there yet; but were just at it.

Went to Leo’s & Rose [Rosalia] butchering 2 hogs. Jake helped awhile had to go home Earl came to fix him a brick foundation for kettle. We had lunch, dinner & supper & sugar cured meat & played 6 hand pinochle in eve. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed also, they left there car set by Jake’s to much mud. Mr. Orlets birthday today 73 yrs.

Patched. Went to Belleville. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up, went to euchre in School hall, given by Altar Sodality. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came brought there mollasses [sic] down to Hy. Armstutz $1 gal. we played pinochle; warmer again today. Euchre in Waterloo tonite.

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in awhile cold, 14 degrees this morn. Ed. Kreher was here looked at colt. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, we played cards. Uncle & pap went out to see Ed. Krehers colt, they traded, pap got colt & $30.00, he got ours. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came this eve. we played pinochle, 4 games. Eggs 26¢.

Cold 20 to be 16 tonite. Schmidt delivered egg mash & articles. Triple birthday dance at Keims at Floraville tonite. Bert [Bertille] got mail & paid the bill. Henry & family came this eve.; we played 2 games pinochle. Snowing a little.
Thursday, Nov. 18, 1937
Uncle Fred birthday; 63 yrs. today. They came up butchered 139 lb. hog @ $8.40; finished at 1 ‘oclock, sausage out of kettle & everything done. Harry Wittenauer stopped in. The Farm Bureau have meeting & show tonite & school hall. Smithton have euchre. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this eve. & Bert [Bertille] went along to picture show in school hall, big crowd, showed pictures of 4h. club; from all over the county. Miss Werner of Hecker, leader of Busy Bee Club, has the most in county. Buddy Braun was here selling chances on box candy.

Bert [Bertille] went out to Henry’s got scale, stuffer etc. They have an airline radio from Wards; & gas engine to charge batteries on it. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up, went to Firemen euchre & dance tonite, didn’t win no prize, quilt played by bingo by Lizzie Neff. Oliver Birkner & Ben Schilling furnished musci [sic] for dance, wasn’t very much. Joe Gregson & Lee & Mrs. Andrew & Glenn Cannings of Marissa Ill. were all here on business to see Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary. Leo & Glenn Cannings are going to start tomorrow at Belleville a filling station there, corner of Milsdadt [sic] road Route 158. Lester is going to run this station on here they say. Pretty cold weather.
Monday, Nov. 15, 1937
Went to Orlets butchering, had lunch, dinner & supper. killed 2, 1 for them & 1 for his folks, they helped & Jake, Uncle Fred & A. Mary, 255 – 184 they weighed. We came home did our work & went back again, played 2 games pinochle, Isd. came out to after work sugar cured there meat, then went home; getting colder tonite.
