Today is Eddy Brand’s birthday in Albama [sic]. We set 3 hens last night & the incubator. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, she helped to quilt, & he worked in there garden. Bertille was over at Renneckers to get the paper to see about Hy. Frischkorn having sale tomorrow. There was a man around trying to sell chicken medicine, we didn’t buy any. the Eicheneseer’s boys was down & looked at our little pigs & chickens. Seen in the Waterloo paper that Emil Querheim had twins a boy & a girl born 9 clock on Feb. 29 leap year, they have 4 – 2 boys & 2 girls. Alois Havey have a child born in the hospital at St. Louis & Hy. Eichleman Jr. have a little boy, the first born.
Sunday, Feb. 28, 1932
We went to Red Bud. We had dinner & supper at Uncle Freds accross [sic] the street today. Mamie & Lucinda Eichenseer where also there a while, then they came over & looked at our little pigs, & chickens, we have 45 chicks now, & 5 little pigs. Aunt Mary went to church & Uncle Fred came over & we played a game pinochle, then they went to Oscar Birkner’s yet, Gilbert birthday.
Monday, Feb. 22, 1932
Washington’s birthday, also Frieda Buehler & Martha Boll. Papa, Rosalia & Jake Neff went out to Henry’s to kill a cow. Rosalia has to stay there while they take it to Waterloo to sell it, this afternoon. She & papa where there for dinner & supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up then they took Bertille along to Henry’s, they bought $5.05 & summer saussage [sic] $3.45 & beef $1.60. then they brought Bertille home again, had dinner here. Joe Mueth came over here a little while & looked at our sows. They should all be having pigs & the one of them did, but where all dead. McDermott of Waterloo, & family are now living with Noel & Stella Roscoe down on the farm, work is slack, he is working for Mobile & Ohio Railroad co. Henry brought Rosalia home this evening. Bertille took 9 doz. eggs. got 11¢ doz. at Eichenseers & got the papers. Henry & Leona didn’t sell much beef in Waterloo.

We sent a birthday card to Josie Keller today is her birthday. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Henry where all here, then we went up to Neffs house to Emma’s funeral. She was buried at Red Bud & also in that church. She was 20 yrs. old. The pallbearers where: Edwin Wacthel, Edwin Reheis, Lester Bruns, Ralph Wiegand, Joe Griffin, Werner Kammler, Quernheim’s undertaking. The baby Ed Jr. is going to stay with Neff’s.

Papa went up in the woods this afternoon again. Today is Roy Stauenfbiel’s birthday also Abraham Lincoln’s.
Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1932
Rained last nite. Today Aunt Mary is 55 yrs old. We went out right after dinner had supper there. Louie was down in the afternoon & we played 5 hand pinochle. About 5 o clock a big showrer [sic] or rain come up. Then later it cleaned of so nice, moon shined & stars. About 9 o’clock, George Parker’s kids & Schaefer’s & Pappenbergs kids all came, card playing pinochle & [ineligible] till 12. Cake & lemonade where served. Musci [sic] was played.
Friday, Jan. 15, 1932
Today Father Sonnen gets buried, mass at E. St. Louis & out to Paderborn Cemetery. It rained hard last nite & colder this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary are supposed to go to Jac. Urlet to a birthday dance, he is to play. There was a lady around selling magzaines [sic-magazines]. Papa fixed a little bench today.

We are invited out to Rodenbergs it his birthday but didn’t get there on account of this weather, it rained a little. Eichenseer’s brought feed down for us this afternoon.
Monday, Dec. 7, 1931
Today is Grandpa’s birthday. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s butchering today, they had lunch & dinner. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up here for Chicken supper. Then we played pinochle Bertille had 1500 trump hearts. Our daily paped [sic – paper] got charged now, again, get it the same day at 4:30 at the post office, they delivered them out now.
