Papa went up to see Fix but he wasn’t at home. He stopped in at Scheinder’s at Smithon [sic] & told him we have horses for sale. Clifford came over at noon. Papa rode the saddle horse out to Henry’s & brought the mule back. Bobby & Floyd got there pictures taken on it; & rode him around. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening a while, to see Mr. Gambach, they aren’t going to the funeral, because they have hay to make. Jos. Schilling finished threshing 520 bu. he got. George Schilling also started today.

Thursday, Sept. 10, 1931

Mrs. William Braun, nee Schilling will be buried today, leaving the house at 8:30, church at 9, then to the cemetery.  She was 35 yrs. old & has 7 children living & 4 dead.  Henry & Leona, Aunt Mary, Rosalia & Bertille all went to the funeral it was a large one, we went to the house, church, cemetery.  Fr. Janssen of Smithon [sic] had the ceremony, he had a wedding in the home first, Frank Kroll got married.  Fr. Grooten is awful bad sick with nervous breakdown.  Papa took care of the kids this morn.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner.  All the Schillings where out today, Jonny, Sam, Gabriel, Martin, Joe, & George, all at the funeral, Degenhardts, Natz, Mosbacher 1 daughters.

Uncle Fred & Papa went to help Roy Staunfbiel get his father’s coping from the cemetery this afternoon.  Mrs. Stauenfbiel was here to see if she could get a ride home from Belleville on the 15 of Sept.  She & papa have to go in to be witness on Val. Fristche’s will, to snigfy [sic] there writing.  The egg man was here again from St. Louis, but we didn’t have any.  Henry & family where up this evening, he paid his threshing bill.

Sunday, August 23, 1931

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary are married 33 yrs. today.  Henry & family & we all where there for supper.  Hy. Armstutz, & Lena Meng, Steve Rennecker, where also some of the guests.  Musci [sic] & dancing, singing where the features of the evening.  Refreshments served was cake, root beer.  Henry & family where there for dinner.  Stahl had his bowie [?] for the threshing crew.

There is a sale at Ruma this afternoon.  Papa went & took Ed. Meng along.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary also went, they didn’t stay very long, & went over to Christ Buehler’s threshing oats today.  In the evening they came back here again, then we all went out to Roy Satanfbiel, Hilda’s birthday, Adam Eckerts, Charles Coop’s, where all there.  Ice cream, cake, lemonade, where the refreshments served.  It is Also Eunice Blackburn’s birthday.

Monday, August 10, 1931

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this morn – they where here for lunch, dinner, lunch & supper.  We threshed this afternoon.  Leona & kids came up to, we had them all for lunch.  We threshed 91½ bus. wheat & Henry threshed 658 bus. oats.  We got altogether, 218 from Henry, 43 bus. Pabst, & 17 from Armstutz.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner today.  Tonight is a dance at the Gun & Rod Club House.  Joe Watchel was here this evening.  We had a nice shower rain this eve, so that puts threshing off for a while.

Saturday, August 8, 1931

Papa was over at Meng’s by the threshing machine this morning, then he went out to Henry.  Bertille did the scrubbing for Aunt Mary today.  Henry & family & Mrs. Geodelle & Raymond, Dick Lanert, where out here threshing, had them for lunch & supper.  Mr. Geodelle came out in the evening.  After we had everything cleaned up we all of us went out to Mrs. Hy. Ronerberg’s birthday party, beer & cake where there refreshments served.  The people came there & left all the time. The Porter Bro. House & Henry Kammler gave a dance in the hall, but they say it is bum there.

Friday, August 7, 1931

Papa went to Waterloo to get he watch fixed.  Leona & the kids where here.  Steve Freund from Ohio was here & gave us a call this afternoon.  He is selling papers to help the young boys who are getting there free education to become priests.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon, we baked a cake for Mrs. Roneberg’s birthday tomorrow.  Henry came up this afternoon & this evening to see about threshing.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for lunch.

Wednesday, August 5, 1931

Henry & the boy’s was here & brought some coal up for threshing.  Wheat is 37¢ bus. now.  We all went out & cleaned the cemetery, & from there we went up to Henry’s to find out about threshing, Henry & Pap went over & seen Geo. Schilling.

Tuesday, August 4, 1931

Papa is picking the potatoes through.  Today is wash day, but it ain’t so very nice yet.  It rained again last night, so threshing is stopped for awhile.  Alsa Eckert was here, she wanted to know if we wanted some plums or peaches, the little peaches they sell for 50 bu. & the big ones next week for $1 bu., we didn’t order any yet.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up again this afternoon.  Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s, & then came home & fixed fence.  Uncle Fred went up to the priest & paid pew rent.
