We washed the truck patch through & dug a few potatoes, there are nice. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon. George Wagner’s got word that Mr. Merhman was pretty sick, he got another stroke, he had one Sun. they went up this evening. A man was around delivering coupons for soap & things.

Saturday, June 18, 1932

Papa went to Belleville this morning. Rosalia is on the sick list yesterday & today, so many people are now. Mrs. George Boll. Mr. Rettinghouse had a stroke the other day while coming home from carrying lunch, right in the yard it happened. Two connecting rods burned out in the chev. so papa left it at Barthel’s garage to get it fixed, he brought papa home. It was so hot today 95 in the shade & the oats bugs so bad. We took a drive up to Smithon [sic] & got a barrel that papa bought at Bernius sale. Ross is living on the place now, he bought it for $8.50. We stopped at Barthel’s, but the car wasn’t finished yet, we also stopped at George Burnius [? – is crossed out] to see wether [sic] he had the key. George Wagner’s family came over awhile, we had lemonade, he is shocking wheat for Chas. Wagner this year. Today is Ignatz Neff’s birthday, the Birkner bunch went, had beer, cake, wieners.

Monday, Dec. 28, 1931

Jos Braun is bad sick got a stroke. Henry & family came up they left the kids here with Pop & the rest of us went to the funeral. Geodell’s it was very large.

Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1931

Mr. Harbaught the mineral feed man was here. Aunt Mary got the mail today. Mr. Laut looked at our pond. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Ettling, Henry, Wm. Ganley where digging the pond, they where here for dinner. They worked about 6 hrs, because it rained this afternoon. Ed Meng, H. M. Hill where here & looked at it. There was a lady here, bought 5 lb. sprs. 19¢ lb. Henry lost a heifer. Hon. Fred Kern passed away Mon. morning 4:30, got a parlyitic [sic] stroke. he was Editor of the Belleville News Democrat. Osie Neff & John Meuth had a most terrible accident today, they where crossing a bridge by Frisch korns [?] in Lord’s Corner, with a engine, when the bridge broke, the engine is still in the creek yet. Osie was scaled pretty bad on his leg, the skin was all of & his chest, John Meuth has a hole through his hand & has it in a sling. Osie say’s if it wouldn’t of been that Johny was there he, would still be lieying [sic] there. Gus. Klotz is sick in bed next thing to appendix. He has it in his side. Dr. Schmidt wife of Red Bud was buried this afternoon, she had pneumonia.

Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1930

Papa went to Red Bud & Waterloo this morning.  Mrs. Rausch is awful bad sick again, she had a stroke, she doesn’t speak anymore, just whispers the way they say.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Red Bud this afternoon.  This evening they are going to Fred Papenberg’s dance.  We were not invited.
