Ed Meng was here this morn, him & George Wagner are going to a sale in the bottom today. Papa went to Matt Frisch’s sale by Oak Grove, bought chicken coop feeder for $1.10, lot of people & everything brought a good price. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary Henry & family where all at Marquadt’s sale in Waterloo & bought lots of junk. George Wagners’ family where here this evening.

Wednesday, July 27, 1932

We all went out to Henry’s & took them along into Waterloo to Mr. Philip Freund’s funeral, he was 69 yrs. old, Monday morning he had just left going down the alley to go over to St. Louis to paint his house & dropped over dead. There where quite a few people at the funeral. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon & papa went along with them to Osbt’s sale by Red Bud but didn’t buy anything. There was such a crowd there, they said around 200 people & more. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had supper here. Then we all went to Red Bud to the ice cream social; & had a good time. Bertille had to help be table waiter. Josie Keller & her girlfriend where out too. Aunt Mary won a ham.

Tuesday, July 26, 1932

The weather looks awful bad this morn. Rosalia is supposed to go to the dentist, but didn’t on account it rained pretty much. Papa & Ed. Meng went to a sale John Fauss by St. Joe, papa bought a rake, & a few articles. This evening we went out to Uncle Fred’s & brought there victrola up here for them, & they came up to & got flour. It looks like rain, but it all passed over. Henry & the boy’s where up & got some whey.

Papa went to get crushing done. Today is Mrs. Cleveland’s birthday. We all went to Wm. Sharpe’s sale on the Ritzel farm east of Waterloo, but didn’t get nothing, good sale, it was supposed to start in the morning, we took our dinner along. It rain a little this evening. Mr. & Mrs. Rennecker, & Henry & family where here this eve. Henry went to milk meeting in the school hall.

Wednesday, June 22, 1932

We went to Belleville this afternoon to Miss Zimmlich sale, adminstrator [sic] sale, & everything cheap, we bought $2.50 worth stuff, 2 rockers, 3 chairs etc. & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary bought lots goods, chairs, tables etc. They came up this evening & brought some of ours along up, then we all went out to Chris Buehler’s Iren’s birthday 10 yrs. popcorn, beer & cake where served, Henry & Frank, Birkner family, & Papenbergs & us folks.

Saturday, June 4, 1932

Uncle Fred & papa went to Waterloo on business this morn. Aunt Mary stayed here, they had dinner here, then we all went to Smithon [sic] to Bernius Sale, bought a few things. This evening we went out to Hy. Birkner’s birthday dance, nice crowd present, cake was served.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon. Papa & Vic Eichenseer went up to Kleber’s & got the binder & rake what they bought. Miss Helen Millman got married yesterday to [illegible] Schmissur.

Papa got crushing done this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon & then we went to Mrs. Leona Deuker’s sale got a hoe for 45¢. Most everything else brought a fair price. Oscar Matzenbacher got the kitchen range for $36.00. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed in Hecker, all nite. There is a play & dance at Broad Hollow Grange tonite, the Deuker girls are in it, they are going to move to Edgemont, where we heard Lela is going to start a beauty parlor & Ethel is going to teach the Hirst School & board, by Mayben [?] Pickett, who is going to move in Kammler’s house where Deuker’s live, Harold has a home & all furnished, so they are going to move in with him & keep house for him, he got divorce from his wife.

Papa got crushing done this morn. this afternoon him & Bertille went to Wm. Sheets sale, but didn’t buy anything. Greg. McCarthy the Hecker school teacher quite [sic – quit] his term here, & received his full pay, the directors where going to fire him, school was supposed to be out Apr. 29, but now I guess it’ out already. Wm. Harbaugh’s boy is in Red Bud hospital got operated for appendix. He is about 4 yrs. old. It was already bust open when he got there.

We shelled corn this morning, then Papa & Rosalia went to Ernst sale between Mondaville & Foster Pond, bought $1.20, sprinkle can, pans, table, rake & hoe. I seen in the paper Frank Geschwinder got 2500 baby chicks from W.C. Heyl Hatchery.
