Friday, June 23, 1939

Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came. Bert [Bertille] went along sold all berrie, potatoes & apples; finished at 9:30; went good. Had dinner here, & took Marita along home again. Uncle Fred went to Athens after so more boxes, A. [Aunt] Mary stayed here. Bert [Bertille] cut lawn & cleaned; Notice of foreclosure of Mat Crowe by Barney Kaiser was in paper today. Waterloo is putting up $5.00 reward for capture of guy that bombed Schaefer House last week, causing $750 damage.

Thursday, June 22, 1939

We had little rain this morn. again but it hailed at Leo’s, & places. We went up Bert [Bertille] did the baking etc; rest picked berries. 23 gal; picked apples. to take to Belleville, they already sold 23 gals. Wed. there Marita came along home with us; over nite good girl.

Cloudy again this afternoon, cut lawn etc; rained heavy this eve. 2 pretty rainbows. Leo & family came this eve. & Bill [Klein]; after all the rain.

Friday, June 16, 1939

Went to Leo’s all day, lunch, dinner, lunch. Jake helped shock, pap drove binder. Awful hot 92. Marita came along home & stayed all nite.

Thursday, June 15, 1939

Went to Orlet’s this morn. Pap drove binder. Jake had to work in quarry, till noon, then he worked this afternoon; had lunch, dinner. brought Marita along home again. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this afternoon. We put our berries away got 6 qts.

Wednesday, June 14, 1939

Went to Orlets; picked dewberries, Rose [Rosalia] got 14 qts & jelley [sic]; they picked about 12 gals; we got 3. We had lunch dinner lunch. Jake drives the binder & Leo shocks. We brought Marita along home, they want to schock this eve. Bill [Klein] came this eve; has a new V.8 coach.

Sunday, June 11, 1939

Went to mass. Celebrate feast of Corpus Christi. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile; her & Bert [Bertille] went to Minnie Staufenbiels to get her dress, its all finished now. Leo & family came for dinner, he went to church here. Bill [Klein] came this afternoon, getting his new V.8 Ford this week. coach, greenish gray; from Favre at Smithton. Ed. Helfrich & Leona Horescher were published at Paderborn. The Hecker Ladies Aid have there Cold Supper & pinic [sic] today at church grounds, pretty cool for pinic [sic], having a 4H Club band from around Waterloo. The 4 Happy Ramblers are having a dance at Kammler’s tonite. Awful cool.

Cloudy & rain this afternoon. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up awhile. Rose [Rosalia] & Marita came this morn. Bert [Bertille] went with her to Red Bud to Raffli got permanents. We went over to Emils awhile this eve; sure nice rain.

Tuesday, June 6, 1939

Washed, ironed, patched. Had light shower rain this afternoon, not much, but rained heavy South east. Leo & family came this eve. left Marita here all nite, they went to attend the wedding dance at Daab’s Club House of Aleda Horecher & Clarence Schaefer, who were married at Columbia this morn; going to live with his parents Schaefer of near Smithton; attendants were Leona Hoercher her sister & his sister Schaefer, & her brother & another attendant not known. Miss Eugenia Schmidt, oldest daughter of Jac. Schmidt & Orvel Mosbacher of Waterloo were also married today.

Sunday, June 4, 1939

Went to mass. Leo & family came, Rose [Rosalia] & Marita went along with us to Uncle Freds, Leo went to last mass here, we had dinner & supper there. Bill [Klein] came in afternoon, we played ball & croquet. The Firemen’s have a dance tonite; at Maniers. Musci [sic] by Happy Ramblers. Country Club have opening also.
