We butchered 1 hog & Uncle Fred; 240 lbs got it from Geo. Parker’s, the top is $10.35 today, on radio. Henry family helped. A fellow here wanted to sell rugs. Adolph Schaeffer & John stopped, brought the grindstone & table here. Steve Rennecker butchered today also. Eggs. 28¢. Awful nice day, ground sloppy.

Tuesday, Dec. 11, 1934

We washed, cleaned up from butchering; Rosalia took the boys & papa out, he had to help Uncle Adam’s butcher. She got them again this evening, she takes the boys & gets them every day from school. Mr. Oscar Birkner came to get Uncle Fred grinder, he is going to butcher 4 hogs tomorrow, one 500 lbs. Henry Meng was here ordered 2 hogs for Thurs. to butcher.

Friday, Nov. 30, 1934

Henry Meng was over, looked at the sow, but said she would be to heavy for him, so papa & Rose took it to Belleville to Strecks, 515 lbs. @ $5.15. Mr. Eugene Bruns stopped in & papa paid him the lumber sawing, 480 ft. @ 95¢ – $4.55. Mr. Burckhordt of Red Bud, stopped, wanted to look at the fat hog, but she is sold.

Friday, March 16, 1934

Papa hauled in hay. We went to the woods after dinner, finished up; got wheat & oats out at Henry’s; came home, made garden. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came had supper here, we went to church with her. Robert Laut paid his hog 439 lbs. $4.65. Billy Olendorph’s have a little baby boy, she is by Chas. Minneman’s, her parents. Went to Minnie got Aunt’s dress, finished 25¢.

Thursday, March 15, 1934

Robert Laut & Joe Watchel got Rob’s hog this morning, took it to Eichenseers got it weighed 439 lbs. We went in the woods all day. This evening planted onions sets, radishes, lettuce in garden. It is in the paper that Lester Bruns & Melissa Weigand will be married Easter Monday & that he bought some land from Levi Gregson. Pete Gardener Sr. Undertaker of Belleville died last night, got sick Mon. evening with a cold & it turned to pneoumina [sic], had heart stroke & died, will be buried Mon. afternoon on account St. Joseph’s Day, no funeral, to St. Luke’s Church Bellville [sic]. Mass will be said.

We all went up in woods all day. Robert Laut ordered his hog to butcher on Thurs. We went out to Floyd’s birthday, 5 yrs. old. Aunt Mary & Uncle Fred where the only ones there. Geodell’s was out night before. Henry & Leona went to East St. Louis, got xray taken of her arm.

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon. Rose & her went over to Mrs. Stauenfbiels. Hy. Armstutz & George Wagner came over got a hog 200 lbs. this morning, George butchered today, pretty nice day, got warmer.

Went up in the woods all day, took dinner along. Mr. Hy. Meng came & said he didn’t want no hog to butcher, he got his from Kessler. It surely is a nice day, getting colder this evening.

Wednesday, Feb. 21, 1934

Papa hauled a load of wood. Rosalia went over to Renneckers quilting this afternoon; it is for the church. Cloudy & warmer, today. We got 3 lbs. cheese at Mertz’s store, from Talbots. Robert Laut engaged a hog here this morning for next Tues. about. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up for church, Rosalia went along with here. Eggs 13¢ by Mertz. Rosalia had supper by Renneckers, it is a Lover’s Knot Quilt white & yellow. The Y.P.L. are praticing [sic] a play.

Tuesday, Jan. 30, 1934

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came we butchered 3 hog, had dinner & supper. Josie Keller came just before dinner. She couldn’t get her car startd, so Katie Klotz brought Josie & Ida along, Aunt Mary, Josie went quilting by Cara Armstutz’s this afternoon; it isn’t as cold again today. Red Bud Young People Sodality are giving euchre, lotto, 500; we all went, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Josie, Bertille got lucheon [sic] set, Aunt Mary got dress and gave it to Rosalia, Papa got table cloth. The rest got no thing, the cake was won by Mrs. Oswald. Raffle & attendance prize a ham, to Mr. Hahn of Red Bud. It wasn’t a very large crowd. It is in tonite’s paper, The. [?] Pleuger, 2 miles north of Red Bud 35 yrs. old, residing with his father, shot & hung himself in there barn today, was found 3 hrs. later.
