Lincolns Birthday. Went to mass. Nice day roads muddy. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile then went home; she has gray hair, washed dye all of now. Emil Mehrmann’s have baby girl born Feb. 9. Frank Schilling have a baby boy. Adam Krack passed away; also Mrs. Scheriefstein [? – unclear] of Waterloo.

Saturday, Feb. 11, 1939

Cold 14 [degrees], nice sunshine. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this morn. for awhile, froze up; road is real smooth. German Band played for Mrs. Ed. Weber by daughter Mabel.

Friday, Feb. 10, 1939

Nice day getting colder, suppose to be zero. Bert [Bertille] got pink eye. Emil brought the mail here for us. Milton Wagners have baby girl since 11 o clock yesterday morn; now have boy & girl. Pope Pius XI died this morn. 5 o clock Catholic Churches ring & toll bell 3 times day about 20 mins.

Thursday, Feb. 9, 1939

Fixed gloves this morn. Henry & Leona & Billy [Willis] came, Bert [Bertille] went along to Belleville, he took sweet clover seed along; Bill [Klein] came here awhile this morn. Raining nearly all day. Kenneth Kemp got stuck by Hill’s this afternoon. Werner Kammler pulled him out with truck. Awful bad nite, windy & raining so heavy, thunder.

Wednesday, Feb. 8, 1939

Bert baked pie. Pap went to Waterloo got feed. Suppose to get cold tonite, to be zero. Pap splitting wood. Bill [Klein] came, we went to Waterloo to Pautler’s to wedding dance, Gummersheimer’s, old couple; nice crowd; good musci [sic].

Tuesday, Feb. 7, 1939

Nice day, washed ironed et. Leo & family came this eve; him & pap took Whip. took a shoat to there [sic] place, he bought one from here; couldn’t take it in his car.

Monday, Feb. 6, 1939

Cleaned chicken house & barn. Rained last nite, but nice today. The Ladies Aid quilting in church.

Sunday, Feb. 5, 1939

Went to mass; took quite awhile had to read a letter from Bischof [sic – Bishop], & read yearly account. Leo & family came took us along to Uncle Freds, had dinner & supper. Bill [Klein] also came in afternoon, took us home. Went to Belleville to play given by St. Mary’s players; Name “Busy Honeymoon.” Steve Orlet was also in it; directed by Fr. Ratterman, & musci [sic] by St. Mary Choir & Glee Club & children was good. Steve Rennecker came here, Gus Edler was out & left money there by him for Uncle Fred. Mrs. Frank Birkner is pretty ill with flu, they don’t let no one in to see her, pretty weak. Named there baby Marlene – Maggie Schaefer & Ben Schilling were the sponsors. Beautiful day warm.

Saturday, Feb. 4, 1939

Pap got haircut. Nice day from top, 19 [degrees] this morn. Went to Smithton to church this afternoon. Berniece got 1 doz. eggs this afternoon. Susie Gal of Hill’s is playing with the Ozark Ridge Runners at Valmeyers tonite for dance & floor show at 10:30. Adm. 30 [cents] per person; Advertised in paper.

Friday, Feb. 3, 1939

St. Blase Day. Henry & Leona & Bert [Bertille] went to Belleville, Robert & Billy [Willis] stayed here. Floyd went to school. Rob. wasn’t feeling very good. Leo & family came to left Marita here & then went to Belleville to, she got new coat. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came this afternoon, also Emil. Cold today & frozen hard, everybody out. Edwin Reheis is pretty ill with pneumonia, temperature is below normal, down to 87; the children are also pretty sick yet. Bill & Al Karban were here while, played 2 games pinochle.
