Monday, Jan. 11, 1932

We butchered 2 hogs today. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & family where here helping, had lunch, dinner, supper. We grind the sausage & beef through with Eichenseer’s grinder & little gasoline engine finished in about ½ hr. had a little bad luck to start with. George Wagner was here & Hy. Armstutz a little while.

Sunday, Jan. 10, 1932

We went to Red Bud church. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner & supper, played 5 handed pinochle nearly all day. Vic Eichenseer was down to see wether [sic-whether] papa would sugar cure there meat for them. Buddy Ettling stopped in on a little businiss [sic-business].

Saturday, Jan. 9, 1932

Henry & family where here for dinner, they left the kids here & they went to Belleville to sell there beef, but couldn’t sell much there. This eve. we went out there & helped to make summer sausage, Papa was up at Eichenseer’s, watching them butcher.

Friday, Jan. 8, 1932

Papa took Jac. Neff along & they went out to Henrys butchered his heifer, papa brought 54 lbs. along & Neff took 13 lbs. This afternoon papa took Neff along up to the woods, him & Paul want to make wood up there, so papa showed him where to make it at.

Aunt Mary was saying yesterday had Barbarba [sic-Barbara] Meuth was awful bad sick, she was out of her mind, they where going to take her away, she got that way since Sun. nite. they took her to Anna.

Thursday, Jan. 7, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was up all afternoon. Papa went up to Jac. Neff could butcher a heifer for Henry tomorrow, he can.

Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1932

We went up to Belleville & sold 30 doz. eggs 23¢ & 2 for 45¢ sold all. Tonight is telephone meeting at Deueker’s. We all went. The members weren’t all present. Henry & family came up, played pinochle, they came here first & we weren’t at home, so they thought maybe we was by Louis Armstutz so they drove down a piece & turned around in front of Elmer Kammler house & got stuck, papa took the Whippet down & put the chains on & pulled him out. George Wagner & Steve, Louis Armstutz, Philip Jatho helped him.

Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1932

We finished our quilt today. Mr. Hill came over this eve. & we played pinochle. Pap & Rosalia won 5 games & we 3. It is raining all the time & getting colder.

Monday, Jan. 4, 1932

We are invited out to Rodenbergs it his birthday but didn’t get there on account of this weather, it rained a little. Eichenseer’s brought feed down for us this afternoon.

Sunday, Jan. 3, 1932

We went to Red Bud church this morn. Christ Buehler’s family were all at Red Bud church too they are finished in Hecker, Fr. Grootens told him either pay pew rent or take his children out of school, so tomorrow he will sent his kids to Red Bud school. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner, this afternoon we went out there had supper, Uncle Adam & Emil where also there, played pinochle. Ed Meng was here this morn, to see Uncle Fred. Tonight Mr. & Mrs. Steve Rennecker & George Wagner’s family where here played cards. Steve held 1000 Aces & George had 300 pinochle & 150 trumps. & In the same game Rosalia had 1500 trump. The St. Mary’s players are giving a play in the School Hall tonight Adm. 35.

Saturday, Jan. 2, 1932

Joe Hilpert & friend here for dinner from Belleville. Roy Stauenfbiel brought our sack of crushed corn down this evening.
