Pap went to see Chas. Helfrich. We went to Smithton this afternoon, sale, & to church. Bert took eggs up 15 [cents] . A kid Schmitling on the Gambach farm, & Oliver Birkner, had a scrap this evening, he knocked Oliver out, unconsious [sic]; for awhile. Dr. Eckert came happened between, Wagners & Watchels; quite an excitement for awhile. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up awhile this eve. Pap went to Orlets inquire.

Saturday, Jan. 25, 1936

Pap got crushing done; Henry & boy’s came up to. Pap, Steve Rennecker, Rob. Laut went to Pete Dehn’s sale, everything was high price, they said; Burdgorf was here looked at the cattle. Steve got 5¢ milk tonite. Joe Manier’s got fish fry tonite. Henry was saying, John Kern is in jail, scraping with Mosio; took our quilt out of the frame today. Rose & Berti name went over the radio today, but they didn’t say requested for Aunt Mary’s birthday, Jimmie & Dick played. Mexican Trail; The German Band, played one for a lady at Evansville this afternoon; Sure got good program tonite from Dismoinies [sic – Des Moines] Iowa; lot of good riddles & jokes.

Tuesday, June 25, 1935

We all went out to Henry’s, had lunches & dinner, finished cutting wheat & moved to Hecker, about 5:30, then it started in raining so they couldn’t cut any more this evening. We helped to wash & iron, took 2 quilts along & had them washed. Henry & family were all up here for supper. Lester Gregson had a misfortune about 2 weeks ago, ran over his youngest boy Virgil, right over the leg, it wasn’t broke are nothing serious, swollen, brusied [sic] a little, but is alright now again. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up, it started to get cloudy; they went home. Some real talk at Waterloo at present, the women folks started in fighting Mrs. Fred Miller hit Mrs. Louis Kolmier (Lenhardt) went to court & the fined is not less then $15.00 & no more than $50.00 they say it went so quick.

Sunday, Nov. 25, 1934

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stayed awhile. George Wagner got 1 doz. eggs @ 30¢ here. Mr & Mrs. Leonard Mertz have a baby boy, Thurs. 22. Mr. & Mrs. Herman Goessling had there baby christened at Red Bud church today. Mrs. Susan Wagner is being buried this afternoon at Belleville. We went out, stopped at Henry’s a short while, then went to the free wedding dance at Guerscheminer & Whiel, Jake Wiehl’s daughter, at Paulters Hall. Moonlighters played, & Oh! Boy what a crowd. Some camp guys got to fighting in the hall, but was taken downstairs, then later put in jail yet, 2 of them; were feeling pretty happy also.
