Saturday, Oct. 13, 1934

Henry came finished sewing wheat this afternoon. Emil didn’t help today, papa sewed. Henry had lunch, dinner. Mr. Sheriff Gauen got another ham 12 lb. & ½ bu. sweet potatoes. A guy here to sell Skill gas stoves, working for the Utility Co. of Waterloo. Harry Wittenauer got bu. sweet potatoes $1.00. this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were to Red Bud brought 2 sacks hog along for us. Henry & family came, kids stayed here & they went to Belleville to the stores are open till 8 o clock. Papa got crushing done. Mr. George Schilling left last Sat. for an extended trip in the East to Fort Wayne Indiana. Bill Refescheinder of Waterloo is celebrating his birthday at Pautler’s tonite. Adm. gent 25¢ ladies free. Moonlighters [playing]. Elmer Matthews has one in Foster Pond tonight. Mr. & Mrs. Rennecker, & boarder Mr. Smith went out this evening.

Tuesday, Oct. 9, 1934

Aunt Mary came over. We washed, ironed, patched. Today is the last game of ball between Cardinals & Tiger’s, they are even now, today tells the tale who wines. The Cardinals won out. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had dinner here. We dug the rest of our sweet potatoes out, got about 2 bus. for sale. Uncle helped to. Aunt Mary & us, kids went fishing caught 8, they are so small, we through [sic] it back in again. Uncle Pete’s birthday. Henry brought the tractor up. Leona & kids came to get him; he didn’t work any more this evening. Steve Rennicker was collecting telephone dues, ours is 75¢. Hy. was here selling pears, 50¢ bu. & some guy around selling apples $1.00 bu. Looks like rain.

Monday, Oct. 8, 1934

Papa baked bread. We went out to Uncle Fred’s painting had dinner. Mrs. Staufenbiel brought Aunt Mary’s basket here. Mr. Henry Wittenauer stopped wanted to buy sweet potatoes, we have none to sell so far; ours are such awful big ones. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came dug some of there’s out this evening, stayed in Hecker all night.

Friday, Oct. 5, 1934

Dug sweet potatoes, they are right nice. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up. Clara Wagner came awhile; got eggs for Mehrmann; he came last night & we were all in bed here.

Monday, May 21, 1934

Mixed concrete this morning. Rennecker came over awhile, they are going to New Athens. Mrs. is on sick list. Rose & Berti went to Red Bud, got chick mash, big picnic there this afternoon, parade, 1 o’clock, merchants are all closed, also schools, it is the Evangical [sic] Church, having dinner & supper. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon; her & Rosalia went out to Boll’s this evening got sweet potatoe [sic] plants, 78, they have 200 ordered, we helped to plant them up here. Clara Wagner was over a while, a man around selling house remedies. Rob Mertz & Skaer started putting the roof on this morning 8 o clock – 5; they didn’t finish. Cyril Eichenseer had his nose cracked this morning, hit by baseball up at school; he has it all plastered now. Eggs 11¢ now.

Thursday, Oct. 5, 1933

We picked 1 ½ bu. tomatoes, Henry & Albert Cleveland, came up got them this evening, he got his molasses, we took a sample of it. They finished slabbing this morn in town, there out at Geodell’s now. We dug all of our sweet potatoes out. Papa went out to see Roy Stauenfbiel.

Sunday, Sept. 25, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for chicken dinner, & supper. We all went out to Chris Buehler’s but there was nobody home, then we drove down to Sensel’s to see the lake, then we stopped in at George Parker’s, Aunt Mary got ½ sweet potatoes for 25¢. It rained this evening. We seen the search light at Scottfield, how it shown around tonite, I guess there must of been an airplane out. We went to Red Bud Condensary to see if they would by cream, but they want milk, so we can’t sent no cream. The Red Bud paper says that Mrs. Owen Fahey is in the hospital since last Thurs. Sensels lost 35 hogs.

Saturday, Oct. 18, 1930

It froze ice last night in the chicken troughs.  The people were seen with their overcoats on.  Papa went to Waterloo this afternoon and got his watch fixed and the oil changed in the Chev. 11513 miles.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to Red Bud to a sale.  They brought us 1/2 bu. sweet potatoes along.  I don’t no how much they are.  We made fire in the furnace today.
