We caught all our chickens & clip the wings of this morn. Jung was here & got 30½ lbs. sprs. for 16¢. Blackburn’s dance was postponed for last nite, cause of the rain last nite, it is tonite. Biebel Roofing fellows where here again & made the deal for the barn, the mare for $75 & the balance $25. that makes $1100.00 roof asphalt shingles. egg 7¢.

Decoration Day. Church Pinic [sic] in Alten [sic – Alton] & here in Hecker, & school pinic [sic] at Waterloo. Hy. Armstutuz was here this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here helping to make hay, they & Hy. Meng had dinner, he helped too. This afternoon Uncle Fred took Aunt Mary up to the pinic [sic], & her stuff but no chickens, then he came back & helped finish with the hay, they had lunch here, Uncle Fred ate supper with us, then went down to Red Bud to drug store. There where so many people at the pinic [sic], they didn’t have enough chicken, 30 people went down, didn’t eat no supper, had to wait to long till the chicken was all fryed [sic]. This evening we all went out Henry Birkner’s, Mary’s birthday, had a dance out there. Lip. Meuth & 3 other fellows where here & they looked at the colts, drunk as could be, they where out all nite at a dance at Fahey’s. eggs 7¢ today.

Papa & Rosalia sprayed the potatoes with Arsenate of Lead, this morn. Joe Gregson & Lee where & looked at the colt again. eggs are 8¢. We had chicken soup today.

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s. Papa took the rake down to Bill Fritsche’s to get it fixed. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here again this afternoon & evening. Frank Birkner’s family gave them a call this evening. Rosalia & Bertille went over a little while, had popcorn. There is a dance in the school hall tonite. Hy Armstutz was here, he went fishing this morning & this evening he took Hill’s up to Smithon [sic – Smithton]. A junk dealer was here & bought 2 hens 8½ lbs. for 11¢, eggs 9¢.

Today is the Mosbacher & Neff wedding. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary are going to the dance, it is in Neff’s house, he couldn’t get the hall. Henry & Leona came & we went along to the dance with them, the house was packed, danced in 2 rooms, nearly all musiains [sic – musicians] played. Papa & Rosalia went to Belleville & took 24 doz. eggs & old hens & 20¾ lb. springs got 20¢ for 2½ lbs. over. The egg man was here & got 31 lbs. springers got 16¢ for 1½ lbs. over. Papa & Bertille went out to Henry’s this afternoon. Emil was there awhile too. Papa helped Henry work his ground.

Pentecost Mon, pinic [sic] at Red Bud. It started in raining this morn, so we planted tomato & cabbage plant out, have to water them every night. We washed & ironed; Papa went out on business trip this afternoon. Mr. Quathhammer & son where here & look at the colts. The egg man came he wanted to buy chickens, so he is coming back tomorrow morning again, to get them eggs are still 9¢.

Papa set posts. Mr. Branderburger, was here to see colts, also Louis & Bill Reheisfiuder [sp?]. Rosalia took the eggs up town. This evening we went out to Ed. L. Parker’s barn dance, & a crowd. 25¢ adm. Josie Keller & girl friend where also there.

We had wash day. Papa went out on business trip today. Mr. Escker, fellow living on Cowell’s farm was here & look at our colts. Eggs are 9¢. Papa took 21 doz. to the store. There where a bunch of men working at the church property today, plowing, sowing in soy beans. The cemetery is about fixed the way he wants it, chat walk or drive.

Emil was here this afternoon awhile. The egg man got 20 doz. eggs @ 9¢ doz. Bertille washed the chiers [? – illegible]. We cooked another kettle of soap. We went out to Uncle Fred’s, listened to the radio.

The paper says last nite that there was teribble [sic] tornado in Memphis Tennessee. 8 killed, 5 injured so far. Papa went out to get a load of wood but it was to soft, he got stuck, he stopped at Henry’s awhile. Rosalia & Bertille went out to Uncle Freds this afternoon & helped clean house, had lunch there. They varnished the middle room floor, got the big room all fixed up already. Fredrick Fristche was here & wanted 2 settings of eggs, but we didn’t have it on hand, so he is coming tomorrow evening.
