We washed, beautiful day, wind nice sunshine, Rosalia is making herself a blouse. Papa hauled load butchering wood. Mr. & Mrs. George Wagners 10 Wedding Anniversary today. Mr. David of Bricky Settlement was here, to see how many pigs were sold since Feurer counted them, this is the last time now, & then the check will come next.

Went out to Uncle Fred’s, was going to take them along to Henrys, butchering, but he already had left; so we went up there, he butchered 4 pigs, Emil also helped; & Oh Boy did it rain, all day & night, terrible weather.

Cloudy today. We are going to have chicken dinner, soup & fried. Armin Geodell came said, he wouldn’t take the pigs, because his dad was over last night & told him that he ordered them from Geo. Geodelle for him. Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s got load wheat, took it to Red Bud got 61¢ bu. Mrs. Cleveland was by Henry’s, helping Leona, she has her arm in sling now, couldn’t see anything wrong with it on the picture. Eggs are 14¢.

Armin Geodelle was here, looked at our pigs & is going to take 4. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this afternoon, Uncle Fred stayed here, the rest of us went to Bellville [sic], bought new dresses $5.85 + $2.98 they had supper here, then we all went to Red Bud, went to Dr. Paulter first, then to church, & Buehler’s. Today was last day for old license.

Henry brought load corn. He sold 6 pigs for $5.50 to Stehl. We went up in the woods, there all day, was pretty nice, 4 o’clock it got so cold, & snowing all night; Oh! Boy! what snows we are having. The Basket groceries last Sat. nite at City Grocery was won by Al Heintz & at Rau’s Store, by Sisters of the Convention Waterloo. City Grocery is still haveing [sic] special prices & sale, Sat. evening, a box of Groceries will be awarded again.

Papa went to Henry’s, then went to Waterloo to the hog meeting, to get finished with that today, we washed. Mrs. Rhennecker has the quilt in there church pinic [sic]. We have 9 pigs born today, it was so cold, they started to get stiff, we called Mr. Rennecker over, & he got them out & brought in the house, warmed up. Mr. Nic Schaefer was here, got papa to sign his paper, that he bought 4 pigs from him on Dec. 5, 1933. Rosalia sewed Floyd a shirt.
Wednesday, Jan. 17, 1934
Joe Wcthal [sic – Wachtel], Henry Rausch, got the hog this morning. We went to Bellville [sic] sold 31 doz. eggs, some for 23¢ & 19¢, also sold meat, & sausage. Wm. Ganley came & paid $32.90 Int. but still has $95.00 & Int. on that yet till 1933 is all paid up. Our heifer with the hide brought us $28.03. Redsow 9 pigs born.

It rained heavy last nite. Henry came up with load hogs, 8 pigs, papa went along over to E. St. Louis market, with him, the government bought today, over 80,000 there when they left, the yard. Henry had dinner here. Mr. H. M. Hill was here taking items. Mrs. Stauenfbiel was here on business, Celestine Neff came down to get here. Mr. & Mrs. Henry Meng celebrated there golden Wedding Anniv. yesterday also, two neighbors, Meng & Hill celebrated same day; Meng had eight of beer, & Hill a keg beer. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up had supper here, they sold some damson plums in town; she went to Dr. Eckerts, got something for her mouth; she brought peaches, got 2 qts.

Rosalia & Bertille went out washing & ironing at Henry’s. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up again, Papa had lunch with them, canned 2 qt. tomatos [sic]; gave the rest to Aunt Mary for catsup. We got 10 little pigs born today Aug. 21. Henry had 12 & there all dead sow sick.

Scheider put up hay, George Wagner & Hecke, helped the kids. A man was here selling a paper Extension Service 25¢ mo. for the students of priesthood & chapels, where they have no churches; another was here selling Lords Prayer & Verse. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here then went threshing by Ronnerberg; Rosalia got another 100 lbs. flour, twin roses from Eichenseer, $2.75. Chas. Jung got 8 doz. eggs 11¢. We took the mule out to Uncle Fred’s this evening. Papa & George Wagner alterered [sic – altered] our little piggies this evening.
