Tuesday, Nov. 18, 1930

Today is Uncle Fred’s birthday, he’s 53 yrs. old.  We all went out & the whole bunch came too.  So they cleaned the room out & danced, it was a surprise.  Cakes & lemonade were served.  Papa went to Waterloo today is John Henkel’s property sale.  George Henkel bought the place for $5,032.50.  Henry sold his mule for $10.00 & 2 pigs.

Sunday, Nov. 16, 1930

Today is Clara Gregson’s birthday.  Levi Ganley & Martin Doyl’s are going to have shooting match.  Mrs. Rexroth is to be buried in the Waterloo cemetery this afternoon.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to the funeral & then to Levi Ganley’s shooting match, we were there too but didn’t get anything.  This evening, we went out to Uncle Fred’s and had a game of pinochle.

Saturday, Nov. 15, 1930

Rosalia went to clean the church this morn. on Aunt Mary’s place.  Papa went down to Red Bud & got some desks for the Sister.  Leona was up & got the milk check and paid $49.00.  She also brought some bones along up too.  Victor Eichenseer was down & fixed our pump.  Steve Rennecker was also over.  The coffee man was around this afternoon, but we didn’t take any.  Mr. Stadliman was around selling apples, he came here too, but we didn’t take none.  Mr. Mike Armstutz was here & brought us a load of corn.  Today is Louise Birkner’s birthday.

Friday, Nov. 14, 1930

Bertille went to church this morning.  Papa went up in the woods again.  Today is Louis Birkner’s birthday.  The priest Frank Swindle came back last night.  He left from here last Spring & now he is back again.  Papa hauled a load of ground up for the priest this morning.  Uncle Fred brought Aunt Mary up this afternoon & then he went back home again.  Aunt Mary did some sewing.  She was here for supper, we had pancakes.  Papa went out in the woods this afternoon in Lord’s Corner & brought some shade trees along home.  We planted them out this evening.  Uncle Fred went to Wm. Harbaughs first & then he came up here, & then they went to Louis Birkner’s.  Lester Gregson & wife & Bobby were here this evening, he brought us our sack of feed.  Cyril Eichenseer was down this evening, he wanted to know what Aunt Mary’s middle name was.  I seen in the paper that Tiptown Church is going to have a Euchre & turkeys will be disposed of next Sunday night.  Rexroth’s in Waterloo, his mother died last night at 7 o’clock.

Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1930

Today is Mrs. Napier’s birthday.  We washed this morning.  Papa went out to Henry’s.  Osie Neff is butchering a cow for him, he is going to take it to Waterloo and sell it there.  Papa had dinner out there & then he took some beef back to Willie Ganley’s & then brought some to Uncle Fred’s.  Rosalia & Bertille went out to Aunt Mary’s this afternoon & finished our dresses.  This evening Rosalia & Bertille went up to see Mamie, we played cards & dominos.  Mr. Fries is getting buried this afternoon at New Athens.  There is also 2 funerals at Smithton, Mr. Heinrich, Mrs. Weyhaupt.

Sunday, Nov. 9, 1930

Today is Mrs. Blackburn’s birthday.  Henry & family were all here for dinner today.  This afternoon, Papa, Rosalia, Bertille drove out to John McCarthy’s to get our lamp for the incubator that we bought at Strohd’s Sale & also got a 1/2 bu. apples for .75¢.  Papa spoke a few words to Wm. Rankin.  We also stopped at Frank’s and Hover’s.  Tonight Louis Kerobers are having a dance celebrating Kate’s birthday.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary are going.  We heard Mr. Fries shot his wife and then himself at New Athens this morning at 4 o’clock.

Saturday, Nov. 8, 1930

Today Rosalia & Bertille & Alvera Braun, Annie Braun have to clean church this morning.  Papa went to see Willie Ganley this afternoon.  Today is Mildred Napier’s birthday.

Friday, Nov. 7, 1930

Today is Frank Dudenhoefer’s birthday.  We all drove out to Aunt Mary’s this morning & from there went to Belleville.  Aunt Mary & Rosalia got new dresses for $3.85 black ones.  We had dinner out at Aunt Mary’s and also watermelons.

Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1930

Today is Bertille’s birthday she is 16 years old.  She went to church this morning.  Papa went out to Henry’s today.  Osie Neff is butchering a cow for him.  Papa had dinner there.  Henry wants to sell the beef.  Osie Neff was busy with some thing else today, so he couldn’t butchered the cow for Henry.  George Boll did it.  Papa brought 3 lbs. roast & some liver along home.  Henry & Rosalia went and delivered & sold some beef.  He has it almost all sold now.  Henry & family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Mr. & Mrs. Cleveland & son Grover & teacher Miss Klinklenberg & Emil Brand were all here celebrating Bertille’s birthday.  The men played solo all but Henry & him & ladies played pinochle.  Cake, lemonade were served.

Thursday, Oct. 30, 1930

Henry & family were here all day today.  Henry finished plowing this evening.  Emil was here this afternoon.  We baked molasses cookies today.  There was a man here this evening, he wanted to buy eggs, but we told him we didn’t have any.  Eggs are .29¢ at the store.  Rosalia & Bertille went up to Mamie’s & Angela & then we all went down to the public School House for a Literary Meeting.  Speakers were: H. M. Hill, Wm. Wiegand, Greg. McCarthy.  Mr. Wiegand spoke on prohibition and ruination of the country.  Mr. Hill spoke of Art and Mr. McCarthy spoke of Nature.  Mr. Hill also sang a song & played the violin with it, a war time song.  Today is Annie Reheis Birthday.
