Went to Belleville, sold everything. Eggs 30 [cents]. Had piece bacon & sausage left, turnips also. Leo & family had supper here. Bert [Bertille] went to Belleville with them. A Bruehl man near Belleville close to Ross Filling station killed his daughter & wife last nite, he is in jail; Another man was robbed & killed near a store; on Ill. Street. Wittenauer shocked load corn, took it home, & brought one here also. Papa & Marita went to election; in Firemens Hall; County Election. Schmidt won against Jost for Judge. Altes Co. Commissioner. Bill [Klein] came got Bert [Bertille] took Woody Acker to Belleville; also his girlfriend on business.

Bert [Bertille] cleaned kitchen. Klein of Edwardsville was here looking for large white oak trees, we haven’t none. H. Wittenauer schocked 2 loads corn, 1 here & took 1 along home. Henry brought load up to. They say Cortners Lawrence they shocked 5 loads, a day 150 bu. to load; corn is very good. John Klein came bought sow & 9 pigs $55.00. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] went to dentist at Athens left Marita here; they were out at Henry’s last nite. He [Henry] took Rob & Floyd out of school, went to Public School again started today, he says going to see Fr. Aydt tonite with his boys.

Washed, ironed, patched. Pap went in woods also went to Wm. Ganleys bought 6 pigs from him $30. & that is pd. on Int. Wittenauers were shocking corn a load for us yesterday & harrowing today. Hitler made speech today over radio. The Hecker Ladies Sodality giving a card party in hall tonite.

Had little rain & cooler now. Bert [Bertille] cut lawn, planted out flower slips. Pap schocked corn & hauled fodder home. Harold Wagner is now operating a gas station on the Phil Braun pump gas tanks. on his premises. Report is that Hugo Probst had purse of $50. stolen from his home.
Saturday, Oct. 26, 1935
Pap got haircut, & got crushing done; took string down to Mike Armstutz, he is shocking corn today. Cloudy today. We baked cake & mince pie; Pap hauled home corn fodder 2 loads. Hy. brought corn 2½ sacks. We washed chev; pap took it to Probsts & got it repaired. Alois Havey was here, pap spoke to him about chimney fixing, he will next Mon. afternoon if the weather is O.K. Bertille got a letter from R. Pautler, everything O.K. for a free birthday dance there on the Nov. 3. Cowboy of Rythm [sic] to play. Hot Dogs. Eggs 27¢. now.
