St. Patrick’s Day. It rained & thunder last night. Clarence Braun has a new Chev. truck to haul milk. Papa went to Belleville & Freeburg. A fellow here wanted to buy eggs for 9¢, but we had already sold ours yesterday. Stell was here.

Wednesday, March 16, 1932

We cleaned house, washed curtains. A man was here trying to take orders for an orphanage, he was from St. Louis, we didn’t take any. This afternoon Johson [possibly Johnson] the fellow what works for Zeibold was here trying to sell skill gas stoves, & also washing machines. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this afternoon making garden, potatoes, onions, lettuce, radishes, we helped awhile. Papa went out to Henry’s all day helping to sew oats. He was there for dinner. Jung the egg man from Red Bud was here & got 18 doz. eggs @ 10½¢. standard price, the way he said, I guess he won’t stop no more, if another egg man comes in & wants to buy our eggs for that price.

Sunday, March 13, 1932

We went to Red Bud. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here all day for dinner & supper. Then we all went out to Henry’s to Floyd’s birthday he was 3 yrs old. Cake, Lemonade, ice cream, where served. Geodell’s where out in the afternoon. Henry Lutker & son in law from St. Louis was here, he wants to get an egg route, we sold him 20 doz. Sun; he pays 1¢ above St. Louis No 1. price.

Saturday, March 12, 1932

It snowed this morn, but didn’t last long, & awful cold. The egg man was here again, he got 18 doz. eggs, at 9¢. they dropped ½¢ again.

Thursday, March 10, 1932

We washed & hung it down the basement, because it started snowing this morn, but turned out to be alright anyway. We finished our quilt & took it out of the frame. Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s this afternoon. He was up in the woods, he hurt his finger, them came back again. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this evening, then we all went to Louis Armstutz’s. Mrs. Jatho wanted to see them, she wanted to rent there house up here for her daughter Lena, from St. Louis, but they won’t rent it out. We played cards by Louis, 6 & 5 hande[d] pinochle. There was a man here yesterday Chas. Jung of Red Bud & bought 17 doz. eggs @ 9½¢, he takes them over to St. Louis & sells them.

Thursday, March 3, 1932

Eggs where only 8¢ yesterday, lowest they ever were. In last nights paper it was that Colonil [sic] Lindbergh’s baby Augustus Charles Jr. got kidnaped [sic] of it bed, while sleeping between 7 & 10 oclock, there is a big piece in there, but they have no clue of it yet. Joe Braun is moving his family & thing to Fayentiville [sic] where he is now employed with the creamery there, as clerk. John Reagan moved in Joe Braun’s house today. Ben Heyl stopped here this morning to put some water in his radiator, because it always leaked out. George Wagner’s family & Steve Rennecker & wife where here playing pinochle this evening. Eggs are still 8¢.

Monday, Feb. 29, 1932

Papa went out to help Henry sewed oats, 29 bus. they sewed, he was there for dinner. We washed, ironed, patched, planted 2 lbs. onion sets, radishes, peas & lettuce, made garden. Albert Tomphson was here this evening & got 25 doz. eggs at 16¢ to set, he took it out to Geo. Roths & getting them hatched. Bertille took some flowers up to Mamie for her to plant out.

Friday, Feb. 26, 1932

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here for dinner. Him & papa went to Waterloo this morning on business. She helped to quilt this afternoon they planted onoin [sic] sets & peas, lettuce in there garden across the street. This evening they came back again & went to church. Eggs are only 9¢ today.

Thursday, Feb. 25, 1932

We all went out to Henry’s butchering today, there for lunch & had dinner at 3 o clock when we finished, had beef soup. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where helping too. He made mostly summer saussage [sic]. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Mamie Eichenseer where here this evening. Eggs are 10¢ doz.

Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1932

Henry & Rosalia went to Belleville to try to sell his beef & eggs, sold $7. beef & sold 12 doz. of our eggs to the store there for 12½¢. Henry was here for dinner. 5 pigs born.
