Friday, April 25, 1930

Rosalia was at church this morning.  Bertille scrubbed upstairs.  Henry Braun the census enumerator was here this morning.  Papa went up to the bank this afternoon and gave Father Grootens a check for $149.00.  He gave $100.00 for building of new school, $20 for masses, $27 for pew rent, $2 for brick.  We saw the license in today’s paper for George Dudenhoeffer and Estelle Forester from St. Louis.  The marriage license was in the Belleville News Democrat paper.  We will have 5 hen hatching on the 2nd of May.  We sent 6 hens on the 24 of April.  Ed Kaiser is sporting a new Ford Coupe.  Henry Birkner’s have a little boy.  It was born about 9 o’clock this evening.  They got him christened Sunday.  Mr. and Mrs. George Parker were sponsors.  They called him Zeno Birkner.

Wednesday, April 2, 1930

Mr. George Heyl was here this morning.  He is accessor in the upper poll.  Bertille took 3 dozen eggs to the store, got .22¢ a dozen.  They were going to start to tear down the old school house today and get ready for the new one at St. Augustine’s parish.  The children now have school in the church until noon.  Mamie Eichenseer came down this afternoon and we made all kinds of paper flowers.  There was a man came here to get some money for a donation for the priests.  But we told him that our priest wanted to build a new school house now.  We found 25 eggs.

Henry, Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary went to church this morning.  They had dinner with us.  After dinner, Papa, Uncle Fred & Henry went over to Ed Ming to look at his mules.  We found 31 eggs today.  Tonight is moving picture show in the St. Augustine Parish.  It is awful cold again.  10 above this afternoon.  Papa, Rosalia, & Bertille were at the show.  It sure was nice.  The name was “Secret of Love.”  Pathe picture and Charlie Chaplin.

Monday, February 17, 1930

Today we have church all day.  We all went up to church this morning, our hour is between 11:30 & 12 o’clock.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this morning.  Henry and family were for dinner today.  After they went home, Rosalia & Bertille went up to church.  We took 4 doz. eggs to Eichenseer’s, got .30¢ a dozen.  Then we went up to Braun’s, had a little argument with him.  We found 19 eggs today.  Papa, Rosalia, & Bertille went up to church this evening.

Sunday, February 16, 1930

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner.  Rosalia & Bertille were invited to Angela Eichenseer’s, she had a birthday celebration.  Those present were: Miss Lena Meng & Clifford Sthalebher, Mrs. Joe Wachtel, Miss Mamie Eichenseer, Miss Elica(?) Pour, & Rosalia & Bertille & Angela.  The evening was spent in playing euchre and pinochle, refreshments were served at due time, popcorn and cake.  August Meuth’s have a little girl.  They named it Bertilla.  We all went up to church this afternoon to confession.  Tomorrow is thirteen hour devotion.  We found 13 eggs.

Sunday, February 2, 1930

Today the groundhog saw his shadow that means six more weeks bad weather.  Aunt Mary & Uncle Fred were here this morning.  Henry came up with Levi Ganley to church and took our Whippet home.  After dinner Henry’s family came up because there was Benediction and throat blessing.  We all got our throats blessed.  We found 5 eggs.  John Kammler’s and Mehremans were also there.  Mrs. Laut is on the sick list at present.  Adam Eckert’s baby Irvin is also sick with bronchitis and pneumonia.  Tonight there is a play at Smithton.  Players from the St. Mary’s Parish at Belleville (to preform).  Today Bill Grohman had their little baby girl baptized.  Mr. and Mrs. Adam Matzenbacher were sponsons.  They named it Orlin Ida.  Henry had company last night.  Uncle Pete and Jake’s kid and Betty Jane and rest of family were there.

Papa, Rosalia, Bertille went out to Henry’s this morning to get some chicken feed.  Uncle Fred and Aunt Mary were here this afternoon.  Papa & Uncle Fred were fixing the chicken house.  There was to be a Euchre (game) in Augustine’s Parish tonight, but it was postponed until further notice, on account of bad roads.  Mr. Ed Meng was here.  Oliver Kuhns & Henry Braun came down this afternoon with a load of coal and got stuck.  Steve Rienbrecker pushed him out.

Papa, Rosalia, Bertille went to church.  Henry & Robert Laut were fixing telephone line.  Henry came here for dinner.  Rosalia & Bertille were at Mrs. Joe Wachtel this afternoon.  Angela was there too.  Papa went uptown in the afternoon.

1929 Recap

We moved to Hecker Oct. 23, 1929.  We had 1 week mission in St. Augustine Church from Nov. 3 till the 10.  They also had one in Tiptown during that time.  The Missionaries priests were Father Kneddy & Siegert in St. Augustine’s church.

Father Grootens got 16 doz. eggs on Dec. 31, 1929 at 42¢.  Mrs. Margaret Hinkel & Arther Meadlock were married in St. Louis on Dec. 31, 1929.
