Holiday. Uncle Fred & A. Mary stopped awhile & went home. Cold & getting colder. 12 above suppose to be 4 to nite. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came Bert [Bertille] went along to Belleville; stopped at Orlets few minutes. Tonite is Devotions for Married people only, this afternoon for young people. Thirtheen [sic] Hr. Devotion in Hecker. Mrs. Mehrmann got 7 doz. eggs. @ 26¢ went up 1¢ yesterday. Adolph Schaefer’s have a baby boy since 2 weeks ago. Henry Heulsheim also have baby boy, thats 2 boys in family now.

Went to mass. Fr. Simion, made a little sermon & read epistle & gospel, he has high mass & read some of his programs. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile went home. We went to Leo’s & Rose’s [Rosalia] – Leo’s birthday, had dinner & supper; played cards. Sure cold tonite, at 7 o clock 14 degrees; we didn’t go to Mission Service tonite, to cold. Fr. Aydt is having some teeth extracted, has another priest here today. Wed. Holiday has 13 hr. Devotion. Fr. Brandmeyer of Paderborn to make eve sermon. They have Mission up there next week by Fr. Hullwing [? – unclear] OMal. also of St. Henry’s parish Belleville.

Went to Leo’s & Rose [Rosalia] butchering 2 hogs. Jake helped awhile had to go home Earl came to fix him a brick foundation for kettle. We had lunch, dinner & supper & sugar cured meat & played 6 hand pinochle in eve. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stayed also, they left there car set by Jake’s to much mud. Mr. Orlets birthday today 73 yrs.

Henry & family & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & we each butchered 1 hog here, 179 lbs. & 168 lbs. – 170 lbs.; had lunch, dinner & supper. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] helped also. Emil came over awhile. Aug. Grahlerr Mrs. Joe Watchels father died will be buried Wed. morning at Hecker. We got 8½ for hogs today. Schmidt brought sack feed & articles down.

Went to mass. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came down for dinner. We got a book as souvenir, from diamond jubilee; the Bischoff [Bishop?] receives $75.00. on that occassion [sic], & banquet, they had 3 turkeys.
Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1937
Patched. Went to Belleville. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up, went to euchre in School hall, given by Altar Sodality. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came brought there mollasses [sic] down to Hy. Armstutz $1 gal. we played pinochle; warmer again today. Euchre in Waterloo tonite.

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped in awhile cold, 14 degrees this morn. Ed. Kreher was here looked at colt. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came, we played cards. Uncle & pap went out to see Ed. Krehers colt, they traded, pap got colt & $30.00, he got ours. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came this eve. we played pinochle, 4 games. Eggs 26¢.

Went to Orlets butchering, had lunch, dinner & supper. killed 2, 1 for them & 1 for his folks, they helped & Jake, Uncle Fred & A. Mary, 255 – 184 they weighed. We came home did our work & went back again, played 2 games pinochle, Isd. came out to after work sugar cured there meat, then went home; getting colder tonite.

Pap got crushing done. He went to Grosomann’s sale by Smithton & Bert [Bertille] went along with Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary to a sale at Belleville, mostly old & antique things; bought some fresh liver saussage [sic] from Schwaegels; sure is good 23¢ lb. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came down, played, 2 games pinochle; popcorn etc.

Went to mass. Jake Neff came to see Uncle Fred. We went to Smithton to see Stehl & Nic Schaefer, came out on oil road stopped in at Leo’s awhile; came home. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came looked at our horse, then we all went to Uncle Fred’s for supper chicken, & played 5 card pinochle, had popcorn, nuts & refreshments; looked at picture.
