Wednesday, July 2, 1930

Today is Hy. Armstutz’s birthday.  Him and Mr. Gambach tend the store.  I send a letter to the Auto Ins. Co. for the Chev. $7.18.  Kuhus started thrashing today.  Tomorrow they will be over at Ed Mengs.  Rosalia and Bertille went out to Henry’s this afternoon and took a few things along out from the store what she needed for thrashing.  This evening Papa, Rosalia, Bertille went out to Henry’s to see about thrashing.  Geodell’s family from Waterloo were also there.  We helped Leona string and cut beans for to can.  Bertille was up at church this morning.

Sunday, June 15, 1930

Leona came up for church by herself this morn.  Henry stayed at home and watched the kids, then he went to Waterloo to late mass & brought Jake Geodell’s family along out.  Leona had to cook dinner for them.  Uncle Fred and Aunt Mary were here for dinner today, they brought some peas & beans, dewberries along up.  It rained this afternoon & then they ran for home.  Mamie Eichenseer came down a little while this evening until it was time to go to church, then Rosalia, Bertille, Mamie went up to church.  It rained this evening again a little.  There were 2 St. Franciscans Sisters here, one was Rosa Kaiser.  Today the Hecker baseball team played with New Athens.  Hecker won 3 to 4.  The ball players went coming back from New Athens they slipped in the ditch by Jake Klein’s and tore the mailbox off.

Wednesday, May 21, 1930

Today the Bishop comes to Hecker to confirm 37 children.  Bertille went up to church at 6:30 this morning.  Henry, Leona, Mrs. Jake Geodelle were at church too.  Robert, Floyd was here at our house.  They all had breakfast here.  At 9 o’clock we went to church again the Bishop came.  The people were to meet the Bishop at Philip Cortner’s place.  There were quite a few went out with their machine all decorated.  Leona got confirmed today.  Mrs. Jake Geodelle was Sponsor.  There were 14 priests there with the Bishop.  Papa & Rosalia went to Belleville this afternoon.  Eggs are .17¢.  There is going to be a dance at Rapp’s tonight, but we got no invitation so we won’t go.  Miss Bertha Wolf of Belleville is in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is under surgical attention.  She lives at 414 East Mckinley Street.  Papa & Bertille went out to Henry’s this evening.  Bertille took her first automobile lesson.

Tuesday, May 20, 1930

Leona, Robert, Floyd were up this morning.  Leona & Bertille went to church.  Leona got baptized and went to confession for the first time, tomorrow she is getting confirmed.  Bertille was her Baptizing Sponsor and Mrs. Jake Goeddel will be her confirmation sponsor.  After church this morning, Bertille went along out with Leona to help her do her work.  She baked cakes, scrubbed the porch & kitchen.  Papa & Rosalia went to Waterloo.  Rosalia got a pair of new shoes.  Bertille had dinner out at Henry’s today.  When they came back from Waterloo, they took Bertille along home, and then she went up to church to confession.  She gave the priest a dollar for Baptism.

Thursday, March 13, 1930

Today is Floyd’s birthday.  He is one year old.  Papa, Rosalia, Bertille & Aunt Mary went out there in the evening.  Those present were: Mr. & Mrs. Gus Geodelle & Raymond, Mr. & Mrs. Dan Geodelle & family, Uncle Fred.  Lemonade and cake were the refreshments served.  Aunt Mary was at the quilting this afternoon.  Floyd got his hair cut today.  He got 2 pairs rompers and 2 pairs silk socks and 1 pair stockings for his birthday.  Mr. Henry Schneider was here handing tickets around to vote for him as County Judge on April 8 primary election.  We found 29 eggs.  Aunt Mary had supper with us this evening.  We were asked to come to Mrs. Joe Wachtels tonite to help to make paper flowers.  They were going to make lilies.  They made some sweet peas already.

Monday, January 6, 1930

Henry butchered 2 hogs, one from Joe Gregson weighing 400 lbs.  Papa & Uncle Fred got it.  Emil & Henry got the other from Albert Cleveland weighing 224 lbs.  We were all there helping to butcher.  Mr. & Mrs. Gus C. Geodelle were also there.
