Washed, ironed. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came up this afternoon, Bert [Bertille] helped them plant onions. Eggs 14 [cents] yet. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came Bert [Bertille] went along up to Griffins to see Tillie, she looks natural, dressed in her wedding dress, & so many flowers; & mass cards she has; the Altar Sodality & Holy Name Society recited the rosary this eve; so many people there. Henry came got the truck to haul calf of [sic] tomorrow.

Monday, March 28, 1938

Washed, ironed, planted potatoes, sewed spinach, lettuce, radish. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up, made garden. Eggs are 14 [cents], down 1 [cent] again. Raining this afternoon & evening. Lauermann & Son plymouth dealer of New Athens was here today. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came this eve. brought there [sic] eggs down. 14 [cents] yet.

Another beautiful day, few showers this eve. Pap hauled load posts home, made garden planted 100 cabbage frost proof plants; cut lawn, trimmed rose bushes, etc.

Monday, Oct. 11, 1937

Washed, ironed, canned pears. Pap plowed orchard. Planted rose bushes, bridal wreath. A fellow here selling the Extension Magazine with extra premiums. Ours ain’t run out yet.

Tuesday, June 29, 1937

Worked in garden; went up seen Fr. Aydt; masses said for Uncle Adam; Uncle Fred is working up here again this morn. Rained a little this afternoon. Edwin Reheis looked at the hay. To see if it would be dry enough by tomorrow. Went out to Uncle Adams; so many people there, in & out. Ed came this afternoon by train; Carrie is coming in about 10 days; were he works they send a big bouquet flowers; & children bought 1, has quite few mass cards. Josie Keller & Ella Miller were also out; Mr. & Mrs. Jac Schmidt.

Worked gardens, Henry & family were here for dinner. took calf to Belleville got 8¢. Pap & boys put roofing on brooder house. Went out to Henry’s got load oats & corn that was still out there yet. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary got card, inviting us to come to Luella Ronenberg’s wedding dance at Paderborn Sat. nite; also has a fish fry & dance Sun. nite.

Pap went out early to Henry’s. Stoeckel came out & they plastered the room & fixed things up. Uncle Fred & A. Mary were up, we cut lawn, worked garden. Bert painted bath room, worked truck patch, planted sweet potatoe [sic] plants this eve.

Thursday, June 3, 1937

Cloudy & raining a little, planted out some more tomatoe [sic] plants. Pap went to Waterloo got crushing done at Horn’s brought some varnish & paint along. Cleaned basement this morn. Went out to Henry’s, Geodelle came out to look at the house.

Wednesday, June 2, 1937

Cloudy & had a few showers this afternoon, had beef soup dinner, picked first peas, carrots, cabbage in soup. Henry & Rob. came got hay rake & mule. We worked gardens, ironed & patched etc. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came up cut lawn, tonite stopped awhile went to Buelhlers, to get eggs. Anna Degenhardts wedding picture is in Belleville paper, Geo. Degenhardt’s daughter; the oldest boy got married awhile back. Broad Hollow Grange has ice cream & Strawberry festival & dance tonite. Wilfred & Leo Cortner had a trial at Belleville this morn. for fighting at Floraville, with Muskoffs boy’s. Leo & Rose came this eve.

Bert [Bertille] went out to Henry’s washed quilts, 20 – didn’t get all dry, rained nearly all afternoon, pretty hot this morn. we replanted cabbage & tomatoe [sic] plants this eve. Eggs 16¢. Uncle Fred’s pictures came today, don’t look bad; Leona got them today.
