Papa got crushing done this morn. this afternoon him & Bertille went to Wm. Sheets sale, but didn’t buy anything. Greg. McCarthy the Hecker school teacher quite [sic – quit] his term here, & received his full pay, the directors where going to fire him, school was supposed to be out Apr. 29, but now I guess it’ out already. Wm. Harbaugh’s boy is in Red Bud hospital got operated for appendix. He is about 4 yrs. old. It was already bust open when he got there.

Papa got crushing done this morning. Then he left & went to Waterloo then out to Farbers sale at Daisy Dell; & bought all kind of thrash. Henry came up this afternoon & got his application blank of insurance, auto & took it into Waterloo to see if he could get his money back, tonite Henrys family & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where all here, Henry drove the mule, & she brought the car. Aunt Mary brought the cabbage plants along from Jauger’s, & we planted them out, there are nice, but no frost proof, just the early plants; they where also at the sale, bought 2 buckets. We have 4 hens hatching now, so far have 32 chicks. It is awful windy & warm.

Bert Thompson was here & looked at our sows again. Papa got crushing done this morning, this afternoon he went to the woods to mark the trees what Ettling should take for posts & then he went down below Waterloo to a sale, bought 45¢ iron & boxes, single trees & such like. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came here & then they went to visit Mike Armstutz’s. They stayed up in Hecker.

Papa got crushing done. He went out to Henry’s & to Uncle Adam’s took his scraper back; then he was by Ettling showed him his road, because he plowed a furrow over in the alfafa patch. This evening we all & Henry’s family went over to Uncle Fred’s listen to there radio. We played 5 handed pinochle, Bertille won 1 & Leona & Henry lost, we just played 2 games.

Papa got crushing done this morn. This afternoon we all Bertille rode along with Uncle Fred to Waterloo to Mrs. Geossling’s sale it was held by Louis Gessoling. Mrs. sold her farm of 80 acres, for $2,000,100, so she is going to stay by Louis now, we bought 15¢ worth of the sale, everything went cheap. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Josie Keller where here tonight & played pinochle till 12 o’clock. Uncle Fred got her from Ben Heyl’s.

Papa got crushing done this morning. We all went to Waterloo this afternoon, Rosalia got a pair shoes, $3.85, & stockings 10¢ pr. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where here stayed all night. Schmidt the tinner got buried this afternoon. Querheim undertaker, tomorrow afternoon is Albert Heyl’s mother in law, he told us to tell George Reheis, he went to school with her. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up this evening we played 4 handed pinochle, Papa & Bertille against Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary in favor of Pap. Bertille held 1500 pinochle, in hearts & Aunt Mary 150 in hearts in the same deal.

Papa & Henry got crushing done this morning. Henry is plowing with the team today, he was here for dinner. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up then we all went to Waterloo to the place where Mrs. Horine has things for sale. Uncle Fred bought a stove there for 25¢, a Wilson heater. Then we went to Mrs. Mary Rippen sale, met Louis Schilling my school teacher. The sale was by are on the otherside of Burksville & St. Joe.
