Pap & Rose went out to Henrys’ got load oats; he went to see Dan Geodelle. The Staff man of Red Bud came, they went out in the woods this afternoon. Wm. Ganley & Jack was here paid Int. for the year. Sure beautiful day. Henry came & cut alalfa [sic] hay. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up this afternoon. Presidents are to speak over the Radio tonite, Roosevelt & Landon at 8:30 & 9:30 from Chicago, Ill.

Monday, Sept. 28, 1936

Raining all day & cooler. Henry & Leona went to Belleville. Billy stayed here; boys were at school. The town lights were put up today, we had lights all over town tonite, at 5:05, turned on over at New Athens. Mr. Bill Kammler died, yesterday morn, of a cancer & stroke, will be buried tomorrow afternoon at the church & cemetery. Mr. Guker of Red Bud brought Joe Walcthel radio up $42.50 pretty nice, Philio, also brought a $17.00 here, its small Philio, nice an loud, we should keep it for a week, till Sun. morn.

Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1936

Ironed, & patched. Picked the last peaches. Mr. Louis Widemann, Roy Staufenbiels wifes father shot himself in a wagon in shed, was buried this afternoon at 3 o’clock, found him last nite, don’t know how long he was dead, thought about 14 hrs. Henry & Leona & pap went out to the funeral. Billy stayed with us. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came this eve. we had watermelon. Adam Eckert came, got pickles that Aunt brought along for him & Freida. It is Chris Buehlers 22nd Wedding Ann. today. Ray Wittenauer is still unconsious [sic]. Lester said, he didn’t know his mother.

Friday, Sept. 18, 1936

We dug our potatoes this morn; aren’t very large. The log man was here again today. Paper says that Wm. Ganley got to have shooting match for turkeys on 27.  We killed 2 snakes this morn. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Henry & family were here this eve.

Monday, Sept. 14, 1936

We washed, ironed, pap & Rose went out to Henrys to get a load of oats. Geodelle’s of St. Louis way by them yesterday, digging a porch. Aunt Mary has the picture tray of all her teeth, there are a few on top that isn’t just right, but she didn’t have none pulled over there, he gave her some mouth wash, put it on her gums & teeth also; should help the tongue.

Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1936

Pap went to see Alb. Monicke. Henry Huelsmann’s have a baby boy born Sat. Henry came brought the wagon & load corn fodder, took the mower home. The family came this evening, got the yeast. We had roast beef dinner today. Vic Eichenseer finished our ground wire for light; suppose to hook up tomorrow, they say. Nice rain today.

Friday, Sept. 4, 1936

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came & pap went along to Sparta Fair with them. Rose 25th birthday. Henry & Leona came up, Henry went to the meeting at Kammler’s Hall; this morning. We baked bread etc. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary had supper here, ate watermelons & doughnuts.

Saturday, Aug. 29, 1936

Pap & Rose went out to Henrys to get feed for crushing. Joe came & Vic Eichenseer put in electric ground wire this afternoon. Nights are cool.

Saturday, Aug. 22, 1936

Pap cut 4 corn shocks this morning. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were up at noon, there wedding ann. came over the radio this morn. We all & Henry & family went over this evening, had water melon, cake.

Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1936

Today is the Wedding of Vanderiet & Schields at Waterloo. Pap & Rose went out to Henry’s help with the silo again, aren’t finished yet; were out all day, got 5 loads cut; tractor is broke now. S. Renneker came this evening. The light & power Co. were putting in posts & bracketing.
