Today is Uncle Adam’s birthday.  He is going to be 81 years old.  It is raining again a little this morning.  Rosalia went out to Uncle Fred’s this morning and brought Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary along back with her.  They were here for dinner & two lunches.  Henry & family were all here too for dinner and two lunches.  Papa, Uncle Fred, Henry, dug up the sewer this morning.  It was blocked up but it didn’t come through yet, so they will have to work another day if they didn’t get finished today.  Mr. Hill was over a little while.  Rosalia took 4 doz. eggs to the store & got .19¢ a dozen.

Mr. George Heyl got killed this afternoon.  The way we heard Mr. George Heyl had been to the stockyards and when he was coming home he got killed between Smithton and Hecker in that creek bottom by Grohman’s.  He ran out of gas and went to the neighbor’s house to get some, when coming back a machine struck him and killed him.  There is so many tales out, that you don’t know which was the right.  Henry Gambach found him laying on the road when he came back from St. Louis.

Papa went to New Athens this morning to see the Lumber Co.  Bertille wrote a letter to the Eureka Hatchery that we want 400 little chicks by the 24 of March.  Bertille took 6 dozen eggs to Eichenseers this morning.  She got .21¢ a dozen.  We found 27 eggs.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here a little while this evening.  Then afterwards we all went up to Uncle Adams.  Today is John Henkel’s birthday, we were up at Uncle Adam’s last year on the same day.  Uncle Adam isn’t feeling very good.

We got our telephone connected today.  Papa, Steve Rheinecker, Elmer Kummer, & Victor Eichenseer set up the pole, & connected the wire.  There was a fire out at Uncle Adam’s today.  Emil was burning hedge and it started to run away.  He call the neighbors for help, but they didn’t answer.  So Papa & Odilla Eichenseer & Kenneth Kemp, Clem Parker, Lester Gregson went out, but the wind went down, so it didn’t take long they had it out.  Rosalia took 4 dozen eggs to Eichenseer’s this morning, she got .24¢.  We found 23 eggs today.

Henry was here for dinner today.  He came up with the wagon and brought a telephone pole along.  He said the roads were awful bad.  Papa put our telephone box in today.  We found 19 eggs today.  Rosalia was up town this afternoon to Braun’s and ordered some chick feed.  She told them to bring it down right away, but they ain’t here yet, so maybe we will have to get it somewhere else.  Frank Birkner was stuck with his machine right in front of his shed this evening.  He couldn’t get in so I guess he left it stand in front of his house.  Uncle Adam is on the sick list at present.  Last week Emil was in bed and this week Uncle Adam ain’t feeling well.
