Today is Merry Christmas. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up early this morning & we all went to church but Uncle Fred he went up stairs & lay down awhile with the kids. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was here last night for supper. This morning they were all here for breakfast. Henry & Leona went home & left the kids here. Bobby went along with them home with Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary. We took Floyd along out to Henry’s with us, we were all there for dinner & for supper, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Geodells, family. In the afternoon we played pinochle. Papa & Bertille were partners & won every game against Uncle Fred & Henry. We came home about 4:30 then Bertille went after the mail, but no mail there. Mamie Eichenseer called up this evening & wanted to know if we would be at home, so then she came down this [way], we played pinochle, Papa & Bertille & we won every game. Then we played Euchre because next Sun. night is euchre in the School Hall, but them Mamie & Rosalia won. She stayed till about 10 o’clock.

Mr. Rhein was here this morning & delivered our victrola. This afternoon we all went to confession. This evening Santa Claus came. Henry & Leona & family were here all night, & Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here till about 10 o’clock. Papa got a tie, shirt, garters for Christmas. Rosalia got 2 handkerchiefs, a box powder, perfume, garters, puff, handkerchief, 75¢, scarf. Bertille got garters, perfume 2 bottles,powder, cat [?], 75¢, scarf. We played victrola this evening & also 6 handed game of pinochle & Papa & Uncle Fred & Bertille were the winners.

Henry & family were all here for dinner today. This evening Bill Freund was here for supper. We played 6 games pinochle, Papa & I were partners & Rosalia & Bill. We won 5 games out of 6. Not so bad eh! Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here a little while this morning before church.

This morning they rang & then they tolled the bell for Mrs. Rausch died this morning early. The funeral will be Tues. afternoon at one o’clock. Today is also Grandpa’s [Brand] birthday. He would of been 92 years old. Mrs. Rausch was about 82 years at the time of her death. Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry & family were all here today for dinner. This afternoon we had a pinochle game. Uncle Fred & Papa were partners & Aunt Mary & Rosalia they won 2 games out of 3.
Friday, Dec. 5, 1930
It rained all day. Papa went up town this afternoon to get some medicine for our chickens, they have got the roup. This evening Rosalia & Bertille went up to Angela’s & had a pinochle game. Odillo & Rosalia were partners & Bertille & Angela, we won every game, 4 were played. I seen in the Waterloo Times that Mrs. Vincent Krack & daughters were visitors the weekend at Louisville Kentucky. They made the trip by motor. Miss Ethel May celebrated her 17th birthday on Thanksgiving day by having a turkey dinner for her friends. Guy Gregson & George Henkel lost a horse last week & the scavenger truck got them last Sunday. Eggs are .23¢ today.

Papa went to first mass this morning. It is raining again this morning. Mamie Eichenseer was down this afternoon, she had supper with us. This evening Steve Rennecker came over a little while and had pinochle game. Papa & Rosalia were partners & won 2 games out of 8. Steve & Bertille were partners. Papa went up to Griffins this afternoon. The roads are awful muddy. Lester Gregson slipped in the ditch this morning hauling milk out in the prairie.

Today is Clara Gregson’s birthday. Levi Ganley & Martin Doyl’s are going to have shooting match. Mrs. Rexroth is to be buried in the Waterloo cemetery this afternoon. Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went to the funeral & then to Levi Ganley’s shooting match, we were there too but didn’t get anything. This evening, we went out to Uncle Fred’s and had a game of pinochle.
Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1930
Today is Bertille’s birthday she is 16 years old. She went to church this morning. Papa went out to Henry’s today. Osie Neff is butchering a cow for him. Papa had dinner there. Henry wants to sell the beef. Osie Neff was busy with some thing else today, so he couldn’t butchered the cow for Henry. George Boll did it. Papa brought 3 lbs. roast & some liver along home. Henry & Rosalia went and delivered & sold some beef. He has it almost all sold now. Henry & family, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Mr. & Mrs. Cleveland & son Grover & teacher Miss Klinklenberg & Emil Brand were all here celebrating Bertille’s birthday. The men played solo all but Henry & him & ladies played pinochle. Cake, lemonade were served.
