Papa sowed wheat, Rosalia got crushing done. Hy. Meng got our mule, & worked him. We went to Red Bud to Waterloo, got glass put in chev; seen where 2 cars, that smashed this morn, by Donahue’s on R. 3, one came from St. Louis, that was Connor’s from Prairie Du Rocher, he was out on an all nite party, & was sleeping they say went the accident happened, at 6 o clock this morn, the other car was going to E. St. Louis. 7 persons where injured, 6 broken legs & in Red Bud Hospital, the cars look asight, all smashaed, total wreck, Nobbe has the cars. There is an all nite dance at Oak Groves & 20 Wedding Anniversary dance at Brezzy Hill, Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Crook; musci [sic] by Moonlighters.

Wednesday, Oct. 4, 1933

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary where up, they watched road gang, & got 1 gal. foam from factory, gave us glass full. We went to Donahue’s Inn, free grand opening dance, & Boy was it grand; & crowded ; 7 piece orch. Red Bud. Schmidt, Cowell, Miss Parkinson; all kinds instruments. Eggs 17¢ today.

Tuesday, July 7, 1931

This morning we went out to Henry’s it told us about a cheap team of horses.  From there we went over to Uncle Fred’s to help put up hay.  We where there for lunch, dinner, lunch.  Hy. Armstutz was also helping.  This evening papa went out to Barthel’s & had the battery recharged for the Chev. for 85¢.  When he came back, we all went out to Mrs. Hover & inquired about a Kelley having a team of horses for sale.  We went then to see him, he lives on Mrs. Donahue place along the hard road by Red Bud.  He has 2 horses, but will only sell 1 now & askes $35.00 for him.  On our way home we stopped at Henry’s.
