Washed, ironed. Received Christmas card from Josie & letter from Fr. Aydt; for donations. Nice day, windy. Henry & family came brought tree up. Leona got 2 lb. honey from Renneckers, for piner syrup. Bert [Bertille] went along over there.

Monday, Dec. 20, 1937

Went out to Henry’s butchering; Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary came here for supper here, he had been at Waterloo, we all went over to Emil’s, visiting, till 9:30. Beautiful day.

Sunday, Dec. 19, 1937

Went to Red Bud. Leo & Rose [Rosalia] came down, had dinner here, we played cards. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary stopped awhile; this morn. We went to Paderborn, closing of Mission church was crowded. Fr. Aydt, Spors priests present. Fr. Teonnies is very ill; Missionary was pretty nice & made good sermons.

Saturday, Dec. 18, 1937

Sun shine today. We cleaned chicken house; today. Tonite its foggy again, not very nice. Henry stoped [sic] in, got crushing done, wants to butcher again next Mon. if it don’t rain.

Friday, Dec. 17, 1937

Bernice got doz. eggs. Raining all day; getting colder, this eve. Emil & Josie & Clara & Lee left last Mon. morn. went to B in Alb. by Ed & Carrie, came back this eve. about 3:30; sure had some trip, was so icy Mon, & Tues. & raining all time. Pap got mail. Was in Messenger Fr. Teonnis of Paderborn is in hospital.

Thursday, Dec. 16, 1937

Raining again all day; some weather. Pap went to see Fr. Spor’s at Red Bud paid $8. pew rent. Went to Hecker, got 50 lbs. flour. Mehrmann got 7 doz. eggs .28 [cents]. It sure is foggy, it’s so thick, can’t see very far at all, last nite same way.

Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1937

Washed, ironed curtains, dining room. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary were up this morn. Rain this eve.; ice is going away, warm all day. Pap got his hair cut. Walter Wittenauer was here yesterday morning. Eggs are 27 [cents] here now.

Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1937

Baked cookies, molasses, oatmeal, Nut carmel [sic]. Icey [sic] as ever this morn. & all day so foggy tonite; not so cold 34. There was so many people killed & died of injury from the ice.

Monday, Dec. 13, 1937

Put chains on Whip. went out butchering at Henry’s started 9 o clock; finished 2:30. everything went alright; Put cinders over the walks this morn. Heard on radio Bill Divian of Waterloo bus driver was arrested for reckless driving about 7 in St. Mary Hospital injured. So many accidents last nite & today, several people injured & some dead; roads terrible.

Sunday, Dec. 12, 1937

Went to mass. Uncle Fred & A. [Aunt] Mary had dinner here played cards. 4 games. Emil’s birthday. Gregsons were all by him. Tonite is Solemn closing of Mission, & the begining [sic] at Paderborn. Uncle Fred & A. Mary came, went along with us to closing of Mission, but boy! what a nite, raining & slick, coming home going down Round Prairie Hill, our car turned around 2 times around boy it sure was awful, but turned out alright, they didn’t have the cinders put on there yet; but were just at it.
